Harriers suffered their third consecutive pre-season defeat, beaten at home by
First Division Wolves, but gave a much better performance than in the previous
game at Solihull.
An even first half saw Harriers passing the ball around well and being strong in
the tackle, defending more solidly. There were, however, few clear cut chances
at either end. Adam Proudlock almost opened the scoring after half an hour,
Colin Larkin headed the ball down into his path but the striker was denied by a
reflex save from Stuart Brock at close range. The visitors took the lead
six minutes before the break, a long ball over the top caught out Lee Ayres and
allowed Colin Larkin in behind him and he squared for Proudlock to finish from
close range.
After the break the game continued in similar fashion but Wolves did begin to
grow stronger and Harriers still could not find a way to goal. It was 72
minutes until they managed their first shot on target, a ling range effort from
Sean Parrish which was hit straight at substitute keeper Matt Murray. Harriers
were dealt a serious blow twelve minutes from the end when Scott Stamps went down
after a fairly innocuous challenge and was carried off on a stretcher.
The visitors wrapped up the game with a minute to go when Parrish was adjudged to
have handled the ball in the area and a penalty was given. Proudlock took
the kick and fired it straight down the middle with Brock diving to his left.
