Match Report by St@tto

None of the players on the fringes of the Harriers squad did anything to suggest that they are worth a place in the first team as they allowed a Worcester City side from two leagues below them to comfortably win Ian Cottrill's testimonial game.

Jan Molby mad a number of changes from the team that lost to Torquay at the weekend; John Danby was given a rare runout in goal; Kenny Coleman, Lee Ayres, Rob Betts and Matt Lewis were also given starts and Scott Stamps and Bo Henriksen both played 90 minutes to continue their recovery from injury.  The early exchanges suggested that Harriers would perform as expected and dominate the game, Matt Lewis twice went close in the first two minutes first shooting just wide and then forcing a save from Danny McDonnell.  Within ten minutes Danny Williams had struck a post and Lee Ayres saw his follow up shot cleared off the line for a corner.  City cleared the corner and broke to the other end where Mark Owen was brought down in the penalty area and referee David Hine had no hesitation in pointing to the spot.  Cottrill stepped forward to take the spot kick and sent Danby the wrong way to open the scoring.

Craig Hinton went close to levelling the scores with a far post header from Coleman's right wing corner that McDonnell tipped over the bar for a corner.  It was from a corner after 28 minutes that Harriers drew level; Sam Shilton's flag kick from the right was met by the head of Hinton and looped into the top corner.  McDonnell was keeping Harriers at bay with some good saves and in the first half also denied Danny Williams twice and Bo Henriksen.

After the interval Harriers fell to pieces and sloppy defending allowed Worcester a string of goalscoring opportunities.  After an hour former Harriers trialist Darren Middleton broke clear of the defence on the left but his high shot was held by Danby.  Soon afterwards City regained the lead; a misplaced pass from Coleman went straight to David Foy who found Owen on the right and he tucked his shot inside the far post.  Straight from the restart Harriers had a good chance; John Williams miskicked in front of goal, however, and when the ball ran to Lewis he could only fire straight at McDonnell.

Worcester went further ahead shortly afterwards, a quick break left Owen in acres of space but rather than taking the shot himself he rolled the ball square to Middleton who slotted it past the helpless Danby.  The third goal in the space of five minutes brought Harriers back into the game briefly; Shilton's left wing cross was only headed clear as far as Henriksen who hit his intial shot straight at the keeper but was able to put the loose ball in when it rebounded to him.

The Harriers defence went AWOL again soon after but City substitute Paul Carty chipped his shot over the bar when he really should have done better.  Fifteen minutes from the end Ayres should have equalised when he found himself unmarked in the 6-yard box at a free kick but headed wide.  The fourth City goal arrived ten minutes from time; the Harriers defence disappeared again and John Snape on the right crossed low into the danger area where Owen slid the ball into the bottom corner.  Harriers mustered one last attack when Stamps crossed from the left to Henriksen who attempted a lob but it was too weak and McDonnell held on to it easily.
