Harriers reached the Semi-Final of the Infirmary Cup, but were
made to work hard by their West Midlands League hosts for a narrow
victory.
A strong breeze and driving rain made football difficult on a bumpy
surface and the game quickly became very scrappy. Goalmouth action
was rare, Andy Ducros forced a save from Pugh with a long range
shot which was Harriers' only one until they took the lead. As the
ball was crossed from the right Westfields struggled to clear and
Adie Smith fired a shot through the crowded penalty area which
Pugh didn't see until it was in the net behind him.
After the break the game followed a similar pattern, and there was
always the danger that the home team might snatch an equaliser. On
the hour they had their best chances, first Lynch was denied by
Murphy at close range and then Matt Beale fired into the side
netting when clear through on goal.
Eventually Harriers got a second to kill the tie off, Shilton set
Corbett free on the left and his shot was going wide of the far post
until it was turned in by Andy Ducros for his seventh goal of the
season.
