Match Report
Harriers suffered their first defeat in the league since August 29 despite dominating the game and deserving at least a point.

I an open first half Notts County started quite brightly and looked dangerous straight away. Paul Heffernan twice went close in the opening minutes, but it was sloppy defending which gifted County the opening goal. The Harriers back line stood still as Stone crossed from the right, allowing Heffernan to flick the ball on to the unamrked Mark Dunn and he had an easy job to plant the ball past Murphy.

Minutes later Harriers were nearly undone again when the lively Heffernan had a one-on-one with Murphy, the keeper hesitated and Hefffernan lobbed him only to see his shot hit the crossbar. It didn't take long for the second goal to come, however, a long ball set Heffernan clear again and this time he made no mistake as he slotted his shot past Murphy.

Harriers were not playing badly, though, and gradually began to exert themselves. Poor finishing let them down again and Garden was rarely troubled in the home goal. When Harriers did put pressure on him he did look suspect, and twice in the closing stages of the half Tony Bird made him drop crosses but nobody was able to capitalise - thhe best chance fell to Ian Foster but he shot too high with the goal at his mercy. County gave Harriers a late scare when McNamara thundered another shot against the bar but it boounced down and away to safety.

The interval came at a bad time for Harriers as they were beginning to get on top, but fortunately they were able to carry it on after the break. The secnd half was nearly all Harriers but again they struggled to break down the home team's resolute defending. Ian Joy stung Garden's hands with a long range shot and Foster also forced him into a save, but the rest of Harriers' shooting was wayward. Had Harriers had Heffernan on their side they would have won handsomely as he looked dangerous every time he received the ball.

Harriers battled gamely until the end, and County could not have complained had the game ended all square, but they could not find a way through and had to return home empty handed. goal.
