Ben Davies' late strike was enough to give Harriers victory over
a stubborn Halifax side and send them to the top of the league
for the first time.
Harriers dominated the game from the beginning, creating a string
of chances that they should have done better with. Although he
was well involved in the game in the centre of midfield, Daire Doyle
was chief culprit, shooting wide on a number of occasions. Halifax
rarey threatened, although when they did John Danby in the Harriers
goal dealt with them easily.
Briefly, at the start of the second half, the visitors came into
the game but Harriers' defence repelled them every time they
attacked. The visitors' defence was proving equally stubborn to
break down, although Harriers continued to create chances Gary
Woodcock saved them a number of times. Ian Foster and Daire
Doyle were thwarted by the keeper, while Drewe Broughton, who had had
a running battle with most of the Halifax defence throughout the
game, headed the best chance of the game over the bar.
In an attempt to break the deadlock, Harriers made a triple
substitution and sacrificed a defender for an extra midfielder. The
change paid off evevntually, Foster attacked on the left but saw
his shot saved, Andy Ducros then hit the rebound against a defender
but Ben Davies made sure with his follow up to win the game
and send Harriers to the top of the league.
