| Match Report |
|
Stoke gained a narrow victory in an open, entertaining game which was
always in the balance.
The visitors dominated possession in the opening period and only Brendan Murphy kept them at bay with a string of good saves. The lively Kris Commons, Chris Iwelumo and Marc Goodfellow all went close while Harriers failed to create any clear-cut chancces. The opening goal came out of the blue and against the run of play, the ball was played in from the left and the City defence failed to clear it properly, the clearance fell to Andy Corbett who fired his shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the area. After the interval Harriers came into the game more and gradually began to impose themselves on the game. Crisp, incisive passing saw them create several openings, Tim Jackson had a good shot saved. Stoke drew level after a clumsy challenge by Abdou Sall on Matthew Bullock resulted in a penalty which Lewis Neal stepped up to take and sent Brendan Murphy the wrong way. The visitors now had their tails up and soon we ahead. Murphy miscontrolled the ball and Goodfellow dispossed him before shooting into the Harriers net. Harriers pressed for an equaliser but time ran out before they could find it. |
