Needing only a point Harriers recorded a comfortable victory to clinch the League title
for the third time in a row.
Two goals from in-form Matt Lewis taking his tally for the week to nine helped Harriers win a game that they were always in charge of. The first half was a dour affair and there was little goalmouth action, Harriers took the lead after sixteen minutes thanks to a terrible defensive mistake. Goalkeeper Phil Carrick completely missed the ball when trying to clear it after one of his defenders had sliced a clearance towards him, he managed to claw the ball off the line but Lewis followed up to fire it into the net. Lewis almost doubled the lead before the break but his shot on the turn was saved low down by Carrick. Skitt and Carpenter both had chances but were unable to find the target and Harriers went into the interval with just a single goal lead. After the break Harriers took control completely and began to create better chances, Inderpaul Khela got up well to head a corner goalwards only to see it cleared off the line while Chris McHale, Lewis and Terence Carpenter all went close. Harriers doubled the lead after 66 minutes, the ball was played in to Matt Lewis from the right and he beat a defender before planting his shot into the bottom corner. Seven minutes later the best move of the game almost led to a third, good passing between Lewis, Phil Garner and Stuart Skitt set substitute Michael Xiourouppa free on goal but Carrick came out to save well at his feet. Harriers wrapped up the game, and the title, with a third goal fout minutes into stoppage time whne Chris McHale got forward and headed in Skitt's right wing corner. |
