Match Report by St@tto

Harriers cruised into the quarter final of the League Cup with three second half goals overturning a half-time deficit against Quorn at Aggborough.

Throughout the first half Harriers dominated possession and created the best chances but it was the visitors who looked the most likely to score.  Josh Warrad was presented with a golden opportunity to open the scoring when Tom Harper rushed out of his goal to clear but was beaten to the ball by the striker who then rolled his shot across the face of the open goal.  Lewis Allen opened up the Harriers defence with a pass for Warrad to run onto but Harper saved at his feet.

Harriers could have gone in front just past the half-hour mark; Ray Facey's cross from the left found Tom Byrne at the near post but he was unable to control his header and missed the target.  The deadlock was broken shortly afterwards with the visitors taking the lead; a corner on the right was played short to Luke Plummer who curled his shot over Harper into the far corner of the net.  Harriers pressed for an equaliser before the break; Tom Meyrick played in Mitch Butler who lobbed wide from the edge of the penalty area and then in stoppage time Byrne flicked on Facey's free-kick to Butler whose shot was pushed over the bar by Quorn keeper Will Lyon.

After the break Harriers stepped up their performance and created a string of chances.  Byrne's run on the right set up Butler who saw his shot come back off the post before Harriers drew level just before the hour.  Troy Manning's free kick from deep on the right was floated over the defence to the far post where Butler finally managed to beat Lyon stabbing it in from close range.

Eleven minutes later Harriers went ahead; a strong tackle from Luke Astley won the ball and set Byrne free on the right who broke into the penalty area and shot under Lyon.  It was one-way traffic once Harriers went ahead and they should have increased their lead; a long kick from Harper was flicked on by Butler to Shawn Salmon who blasted his shot wide.  There  was a scare for Harriers when Ryan North broke on the right and crossed low but Matt Langan mis-kicked and then at the far post Lewis Dodds fired wide.

The best goal of the night came five minutes from the end and wrapped up the result for Harriers; Manning won the ball in defence and carried it forward into the Quorn half before playing it forward to Salmon who knocked it down into the path of substitute Alex Francis-Greer who curled his shot into the top corner of the net.  The same player could have added a further goal at the death but this time he curled his shot beyond the far post.
