Harriers' interest in the League Cup was ended when their makeshift side
was taken to extra-time before losing on penalties at Paget.
A very scrappy match had little to commend it, Harriers were the better
side throughout the first half but could not make the breakthrough. Inderpaul
Khela headed against the crossbar and Michael Glynn had a shot saved. Debutant
keeper Andrew Yarnold in the Harriers goal had nothing to do until well into the
second half, Paget attacked and Yarnold thwarted them but the defence failed
to clear and the ball was lashed into the net by O'Shea to give the home team the lead.
Harriers seemed to be heading out of the competition, but were awarded a penalty
five and a half minutes into stoppage time when Khela was fouled by Murray. Glynn
stepped up to take the kick and tucked it into the bottom corner. Extra-time
brought little more excitement and the game went to penalties.
Yarnold gave Harriers a good start by saving the first Paget kick from Hollis, but
after Glynn had scored they found themselves trailing when both McHale and Heath
had their kicks saved and Davies and O'Shea scored. Yarnold saved Paget's fourth
from Thomas and Bailey scored to level the tie, but Paintin scored for Paget and
then Phil Garner ended the match by sending his kick high over the crossbar.
