Match Report by St@tto
Harriers reached the last sixteen of the FA Youth Cup with an excellent victory over Grimsby Town at Aggborough.

Harriers' youngsters battled for their victory, running themselves into the ground, throwing themselves into every tackle, and fighting for every loose ball. Grimsby were never allowed to settle into their game and Harriers fully deserved their win.

Harriers had a great start when they were awarded a penalty when Kirk Wheeler handled. Matt Lewis stepped up to take the kick and sent Morgan Cranley in the visitors' goal the wrong way. The match developed into a midfield battle and there was not a lot of goalmouth action for the rest of the half.

Grimsby had a short spell in the middle of the half when they began to come into the game, Harriers looked a little nervous in front of the large crowd, and managed to grab an equaliser. John Danby failed to collect Freddie Cass' corner and Ross Thompson headed in.

Just after the half-hour mark Harriers almost regained the lead, the ball was played high into the penalty area and Richard Langford headed over Cranley only for Wes Parker to clear off the line. Shortly before the break Harriers got back in front when Grimsby's central defenders were unable to cope with a long ball under pressure from Lewis and Michael Glynn and Lewis volleyed in from the edge of the area. On the stroke of half time Harriers almost grabbed third when Nick Heath's cross hit langford and spun just past the post.

After the break Harriers began to dominate and created more chances that they were unable to take. Micheal Glynn tried several long range efforts but missed the target with them, Lewis had a shot saved and late on Terence Carpenter also called Cranley into action.

As the game wore on Grimsby became more desperate throwing men forward and created a couple of chances. John Danby made up for his earlier mistake saving from Darren Mansaram and Ross Thompson and racing off his line to clear from the feet of Mansaram. One of the best moves of the game came with fifteen minutes remaining, Danby made his save from Mansaram and Scott Lower cleared, Harriers swiftly moved the ball down the field leaving Lewis with a clear run at Cranley but he pulled his shot wide of the far post.

The game was a full-blooded cup tie with both sides giving 100% commitment, and with the number of strong challenges that were made both physios were called onto the pitch more than once leading to the referee adding nearly five minutes of stoppage time at the end. Despite the growing tension, Harriers held on for a well deserved, history making, victory and now face a trip to either Nottingham Forest or Watford in the Fifth round.
