Harriers historic cup run was ended by Forest's talented youngsters,
but Harriers can hold their heads high for the way they acquitted
themselves.
Forest were clearly the better side, they passed the ball around well and were all comfortable in possession. Haskins in the centre of midfield caused Harriers problems throughout but it was Bodkin who gave the home team the lead on sixteen minutes. A strong breeze swirling around inside The City Ground didn't help matters for Harriers as Forest played the first half with it at their backs and kept Hrriers pinned back in their own half. The home team created a string of chances, John Danby was called into action by both Bopp and Bodkin before Haskins doubled the lead shortly before the break. After the interval Harriers had more of the possession with the conditions more in their favour, but they never caused Reid any problems in the home team goal. Forest still looked dangerous going forwards and the Harriers backline was forced into some last ditch tackles and clearances to avert the danger. Eventually, a third goal arrived, Birch shot from the left and Danby was only able to parry it into the path of Bodkin who was left with an easy tap-in. There was no further scoring as Forest played out time and took their place in the quarter-finals. Harriers can have no complaints about the result as they were beaten by the better team on the night but with their performance they did themselves proud. |
