Harriers maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a
hard fought victory at Eton Park.
As is often the case when these teams meet, the game was a strong
physical battle. Burton began the game brighter and had the most
chances to open the scoring in the first half, although Harriers
came closest to scoring with Tom Willmore's shot which Renton
tipped over the bar. Nick Heath was a constant thorn in the
home team's defence with several good crosses into the box but
nobody got on the end of them.
After the break, Harriers began to take control and soon took the
lead when a right wing corner was taken short and Smallman climbed
highest to head in Bailey's cross. Harriers then continued to
create chances at will, but couldn't convert any of them. Lee
Bowen forced Renton into saves on five occasions, Nick Heath and
Terence Carpenter both hit the woodwork. With so many chamces
being wasted there was always a danger that Burton would snatch
an undeserved equaliser, but they never really threatened and
Harriers fully deserved ther victory.
