Match Report by St@tto

Harriers slumped to their fourth consecutive League defeat and in the process fell into the relegation zone with only goal difference keeping them off the foot of the table.

Jan Molby was forced into a number of changes, Richie Appleby coming in for his first start of the season and Chris McHale getting a recall in place of the injured Dean Keates and suspended Micky Mellon.  Out-of-form striker Jesper Christiansen was relegated to the bench with on-loan forward Kelvin Langmead making his debut.

Harriers started quite brightly and in the first few minutes had shown more application and endeavour than they had done in the whole of the previous game at Bury but still could not create much in attack.  Langmead didn't get enough support from those around him and in the end didn't do much better than Christiansen has been recently; Simon Brown, clearly a great player, is becoming more and more frustrating as he tries to do too much by himself, on a number of occasions he shot wildly and missed the target with teammates in better positions.

The visitors took the lead after 19 minutes, a long ball out of defence caught out Adi Viveash and Gary Alexander nipped in behind and had a clear run at goal scoring with an angle shot across John Danby into the far corner.  They could have doubled their lead soon afterwards, a long throw from David Hunt on the left found Alan White at the near post who headed into the side netting.  Harriers' best move of the half started from Brown, he threaded a pass through the Orient defence for Stuart Roberts to run onto, his cross was only half cleared and fell to Frédéric Advice-Desruisseaux who shot straight at Lee Harrison.

Advice-Desruisseaux was replaced at the interval with Steve McMahon coming on for his debut.  Harriers improved in hte early stages of the second half; a set piece was always looking to be Harriers' best threat, a free kick from Appleby on the left was headed back across goal by Wayne Hatswell and Viveash headed just wide.  Soon afterwards Harriers felt that they should have had a penalty, Brown crossed from the right invitingly into the penalty area towards Viveash who appeared to be pushed by Gabriel Zakuani but the referee was not interested.  Langmead went close to scoring with a header that went just over the bar from Roberts' free kick.

Orient put the game out of Harriers' reach midway through the half when Chris McHale brought down Lee Steele in the penalty area and this time the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot.  Matt Lockwood took the penalty sending it to Danby's right and the young keeper almost got his hands to it.  Things could have got worse for Harriers when Steele jinked his way into the penalty area and beat Danby only to see his goalbound shot cleared off the line by Steve Burton.

With time running out a long ball over the Orient defence by Burton was chased down by substitute Ian Foster who beat Harrison to the ball and lobbed it in from the edge of the penalty area.  With only a couple of minutes left Harriers decided that now was the time to start playing but it was too little too late and Orient held on to take all of the points.
