Match Report by St@tto

Harriers' inability to defend set-pieces again came back to haunt them as they were denied a first win by a late equaliser.

A very young and inexperienced Harriers side had come from behind to lead and looked set to take their first three points of the season until the home side equalised five minutes into stoppage time.

Debuts were given to new loan signings Joe Ward and Ben Whitfield in a revamped midfield and Callum Hassan was handed his first start; Joe Clarke and Reece Styche dropped down to the bench to make way.

After a bright start that saw Harriers playing some promising passing football they fell behind on 20 minutes, once again failing to defend a corner.  Dean Snedker had made a great save to keep out former Harrier Josh O'Keefe's blistering drive that was arrowing toward the top corner but from the resulting corner another former Harrier, James Lawrie, managed to curl his flag-kick inside the unguarded near post despite the efforts of Snedker to keep it out.

Zaine Francis-Angol was a threat for Harriers on the left wing and three minutes after they had fallen behind his run on the wing opened up the home defence but his cross was just our of the reach of Hassan.  Hassan was heavily involved in Harriers' equaliser eight minutes before the break; working hard to keep the ball in play he knocked it back to Ward who found skipper Jared Hodgkiss, his pass into the penalty area found Hassan who blasted it into the roof of the net.

Moments later Hassan could have given Harriers the lead but after racing through the inside-right channel he chose the wrong foot to try to guide the ball past Tim Deasy in the home goal and instead drove it wide.

Having come from behind Harriers played with more confidence nd went close to taking the lead on the hour; Ward's free-kick from just outside the penalty area curled around the wall and just wide of Deasy's left-hand post.  Soon afterwards Luke Maxwell tested Deasy with a shot from distance but his effort was easy for the keeper to deal with.

Fifteen minutes from the end Harriers took the lead; the lively Whitfield pounced on a mistake by Gianluca Havern who was struggling to clear Hodgkiss' long ball forward to dispossess the home skipper and then lashed a shot past Deasy to cap an impressive debut.

Harriers did well to see out the remainder of the game and looked set to finally record their first win of the season but deep into stoppage time a foul by Hodgkiss on Lawrie gave Alty a free-kick just outside the penalty area.  Jordan Sinnott rolled the free-kick square to Michael Rankine who blasted his shot through a crowd to break Harriers' hearts.
