Referee: Brett Huxtable (Torrington, Devon) |
A very disappointing first-half performance from Harriers saw them beaten at The Racecourse. With bottom club Torquay beating relegation rivals Welling 2-0 at Plainmoor Harriers slipped back to the bottom of the league, two points adrift and having played three games more. Colin Gordon named an unchanged starting line-up from the one that had thrown away a two-goal lead against Chester at the weekend and they began the game as they had finished the previous one. Harriers struggled to get their passing game going, misplacing many passes and not working their way forward into the attacking third of the field. Wrexham took the lead on 15 minutes after a mistake from Kelvin Langmead who mis-kicked, allowing Kayden Jackson clear to score with a shot that went in off the crossbar. On the half-hour the home side doubled their advantage in controversial circumstances when a the ball was lofted into the goalmouth after a short corner and although Jared Hodgkiss appeared to clear off the goal-line the linesman signalled that the ball had gone in and Jackson was accredited with another goal. When Harriers did manage to get into the Wrexham penalty area Ben Whitfield couldn't connect with the ball properly and screwed his shot wide. Former Harrier Lee Fowler had a chance to increase the lead further before the break but he fired wide of the target. At the interval Harriers changed things round a little, introducing Evan Garnett and James McQuilkin, but the performance didn't get much better. Jackson went close to a hat-trick but his 20-yard shot from Fowler's pass was parried by Dean Snedker and midway through the half Connor Jennings shot wide from distance. In the closing moment Harriers finally woke up and with ten minutes to Arthur Gnahoua managed their first on-target shot of the game but Rhys Taylor was equal to it and parried to safety. Gnahoua then had another shot blocked to win a corner and from that corner there was a scramble that saw Omari Patrick have a shot blocked but it was ll too little too late. |
