Match Report |
After winning their previous match in stoppage time, it was Kidderminster's
turn to suffer a last-gasp goal.
After surviving an early onslaught by the Tigers, Harriers took the sting out of the game and the home crowd and were deservedly level at the break. Both teams had created chances, Stuart Brock saved well from both Greaves and Whitmore, while Tony Bird rattled the crossbar with a 25 yard free-kick. Having lost young Lee Ayres to injury a forced reshuffle left Bird at right back and Foster wide on the right of midfield. After the break the game continued to ebb and flow in an even manner, but Harriers will be disappointed with the goal that gave City the lead. Former Kettering starlet Lawrie Dudfield evaded Sam Shilton's challenge on the wing and crossed into the danger area for Alexander who was completely unmarked and could not fail to score with his close range header. This setback knocked the wind out of Harriers for some time and they almost found themselves two down after 76 minutes when Alexander turned in Dudfield's wayward shot but was ruled offside. Harriers did not give up, however, and Tony Bird went close with another free-kick which Glennon was forced to turn around the post. Kidderminster kept pressing and were thrown a lifeline when Justin Whittle brought down Stewart Hadley from behind when the Harriers striker was clear on goal and about to shoot. Bird steppped up and calmly sent Glennon the wrong way with the spot kick. The goal brought a spark back into Harriers' play and they created several chances in the closing minutes which they could not convert and then deep into stoppage time sloppy defending cost them dearly when they allowed a long throw to travel across the face of goal unchallenged to Alexander who turned it in at the far post. |
