Match Report |
A tense local derby ended all square with defences coming out on top.
As is usual for games between these teams, the game was a physicl encounter and Cheltenham's Chris Banks found his name in the referee's notebook in the seccond minute for a foul on Drewe Broughton. The same two players had quite a battle for the rest of the afternoon, but Banks managed to keep himself out of further trouble. Veteran goalkeeper was a surprise inclusion in the Harriers goal, coming out of retirement to cover for the suspended Stuart Brock, but he had a fairly quiet match. Only twice was he called into action to save from Naylor and Alsop, but neither effort was particularly powerful or accurate enough to cause real danger. Harriers dominated possession in the opening period, and played some neat, attractive, football. However, once they were near the Cheltenham goal, their finishing let them down, and their best efforts were a pair of long range efforts from Dean Bennett and Adie Smith. After the break the game became bogged down in midfield an goalmouth action became less and less. As the game wore on tension grew and the match fizzled out into a goalless stalemate. Harriers stretched their unbeaten "run" to two game, but they haven't scored a goal at home since Mark Blake's header against Mansfield on September 1, 398 minutes ago. |
