An excellent all-round performance saw Harriers come away with a point from their
first ever visit to the Fitness First Stadium at Dean Court.
Following on from the disappointment of Saturday's draw with Lincoln, Harriers
arrived at Bournemouth with a clear plan in mind and executed it to perfection
getting a point and almost stealing all three in the dying moments when Drewe
Broughton curled his shot past the post.
Using a more defensive line-up with Bo Henriksen in a five-man midfield and Broughton
alone up front, Harriers soaked up wave after wave of pressure from the Cherries. Warren
Feeney shot weakly at Stuart Brock in the Harriers goal and also wasted two other
good chances as Harriers restricted their hosts' opportunities.
After the break Bournemouth stepped up the pressure, five minutes after the interval
the ever dangerous Feeney took the ball round Brock on the left but curled his cross-shot
wide of the far post. Carl Fletcher pulled his shot wide on the hour mark and
Brock was soon in action again when he dived full length to keep out James Hayter's shot
and Feeney following up turned the loose ball over.
As time ran out, Marcus Browning had a shot saved and then Brock blocked Feeney well
before Harriers finally mustered their first shot at goal in the last minute. Broughton
chased a through ball that sprung the offside trap and as Chris Tardif came out he curled
his shot narrowly past the far post. The final whistle was greeted with jubilation
by the Harriers players and management, it was unclear, however, whether the cries
of "What a load of rubbish" from the home fans were directed at their own players for
failing to break down the visitors or at the visitors for their spoiling tactics.
