Match Report by St@tto |
Kamikaze defending cost Kidderminster dearly again as they made an impressive Oxford side look even better allowing them a comfortable 3-1 win.
The early exchanges were fairly even, although frantic, Oxford were first to threaten a goal when Roy Hunter blazed a long shot just wide. Harriers came close after 20 minutes, Andy Bishop got into the penalty area on the left and fired the ball across the face of goal and Dean Bennett couldn't reach to turn it in. Within a minute the visitors were ahead. Steve Basham was allowed to run at the heart of the Harriers defence who all kept backing off until he was close enough to strike a low shot into the bottom corner of the net. Eight minutes later Kidderminster needlessly gave away possession in a dangerous position and as the ball was played into the penalty area Craig Hinton's attempted clearance sliced towards the goal and despite the efforts of Stuart Brock and Kenny Coleman on the line it found its way into the back of the net. Just before the interval Bishop came close, running through the Oxford defence but he fired weakly at Andy Woodman in the visiting goal. After the break Harries were more fired up and looked dangerous straight away. Six minutes into the half Sean Parrish pulled a goal back, Bishop did well on the right and his cross-shot was turned in by Parrish at the far post. Five minutes later Oxford almost restored their two goal advantage, Hunter's through ball set Andy Scott free on the left but his shot was well tipped over by Brock for a corner. On the hour Oxford scored a third, the ball was played into the penalty area and Brock inexplicably dropped it allowing Scott a clear sight of goal and the striker found the net with a sharply taken volley from a narrow angle. Kidderminster almost reduced the arrears five minutes later, Bishop and Dean Bennett combined on the right and Bo Henriksen almost turned in Bennett's shot at the far post. Fifteen minutes from the end Sam Shilton crossed well from the right and Parrish, who had more time than he realised, headed over. Oxford's third goal had taken the sting out of the Harriers attack and the visitors were able to control the closing minutes of the game and snuff out any threat that Harriers might get themselves back into the game again. |
