Wrexham did their promotion chances a world of good with a comfortable victory at Aggborough although both
goals were down to poor defending by the home team.
The Robins had plenty of possession in the opening stages without really doing much with it, but they did look the most likely to open the scoring. The game was stopped for ten minutes midway through the first half when a strong wind blew down a temporary television gantry onto the pitch. The break worked better for the home team and when the game restarted they soon got into their stride. Andy Bishop headed a cross wide at the far post when Sean Parrish was better placed behind him after 24 minutes, and then straight away Wrexham counter-attacked with Andy Morrell breaking clear but Stuart Brock was quickly off his line to save at the striker's feet. Parrish and Ian Foster combined to create an opening on the half hour, with Parrish squaring the ball into the Wrexham penalty area towards Bishop but Brian Carey cleared the danger. Carey soon saved his team again when he cleared Bishop's header from Sam Shilton's corner off the line. Against the run off play Wrexham took the lead, the ball was played through the inside right channel for Lee Trundle to chase and as Dion Scott and Scott Stamps backed away from him he curled a shot round Brock from the edge of the penalty area. Shortly before the break Trundle had another chance when he ran through the Harriers defence but Brock was able to turn his shot away for a corner. After the interval Harriers started brightly again and Dennis Lawrence had to be alert to foil Bishop as he broke clear. The ball spun away to the left, however, where Foster was waiting and he cut inside and hit a sharp shot that Dibble could only parry but there were no Harriers players following up to take advantage. Wrexham were content to let Harriers have the ball and soak up any pressure that the home team could muster, particularly as Harriers' final ball too often let them down. The visitors went further ahead after 62 minutes, Scott Green's corner from the right was headed down by Carey and the Harriers defence was too slow to react as Trundle stabbed the ball in from close range. At two down Kidderminster seemed to run out of inspiration and rarely looked like getting themselves back into the game, their only real chance came in the 90th minute when Dibble picked up a back-pass from Lawrence. From Sean Flynn's quickly taken free kick Shilton saw his shot blocked. Wrexham were able to see out stoppage time comfortably and take the three points back to Wales, almost completely ending the home team's hopes of reaching the play-offs. |
