Match Report |
Harriers snatched a last-gasp victory with Tony Bird's third goal
of the season just as the game appeared set to fizzle out into a
goalless draw.
Kidderminster were hoping to carry on in the same form that they showed in medweek against Preston, but appeared to be suffering from tiredness from the extra half hour that had to be played in that game. Harriers' best chance in the opening period came when Tony Bird slammed a free-kick against the crossbar, unfortunately the ball bounced outwards and was cleared to safety. At the other end, Torquay's Neville Roach was looking lively and went close on a couple of occassions while their best chance saw Stuart Brock parry David Graham's shot and Adie Smith clear off the line. At the interval, Jan Molby made a triple substition in the hope of freshening things up a little but the game continued in a very scrappy fashion. Harriers created the best chances again, but the visitors always looked capable of snatching a late goal. Dearden made a fiine double save denying both Dean Bennett and Drewe Broughton, although Broughton was then adjudged to be offside. Eifion Williams broke clear of the Harriers defence but Stuart Brock was quick off his line to save at the striker's feet. With the game drifting into stoppage time, Broughton chased a long ball into the Torquay penalty area and tangled with Steve Woods, and the linesman flagged to signal that Woods had pushed Broughton in the back. After the protests had died down, Tony Bird stepped up to calmly tuck the spot kick into the corner for his third goal of the season. Torquay will be disappointed to be making the long journey home empty-handed, but Kidderminster will be pleased to have picked up the points without having played very well. |
