Harriers' injury-hit side gave one of their worst performances of the
season and can have no complaints about the final result.
A bright opening to the game saw Harriers on top and they should have been two or three goals ahead inside the first fifteen minutes. A string of chances were created by the Reds in dificult conditions but poor finishing let them down again. Richie Appleby and Adie Smith forced Steve Wilson into saves, Drewe Broughton hit the bar and Scott Stamps hit a free-kick into Wilson's arms.
Macclesfield's five man defence was being cut to shreds and manager David Moss made a tactical switch after just 25 minutes, removing Karl Munroe and replacing him with Lee Glover and changing his formation to the same 4-3-3 employed by Harriers. This killed the game dead, both sides cancelling each other out and the scoring chances dried up. Harriers were then dealt another blow when Richie Appleby pulled his hamstring again and limped off to be replaced by Daire Doyle making his first League appearance of the season.
The swirling wind and rain did not make life easy for the players, both sides struggled to keep their footing on the greasy surface and good football was difficult to produce. After the break Harriers' performance steadily deteriorated and they only managed to produce one shot on target but Ian Foster's effort was well blocked by Darren Tinson. Late on young Matt Lewis was brought on to replace the anonymous Colin Larkin but made little difference to Harriers' attack. Again Harriers lacked a leader on the field and will be desperate for the return of Danny Williams and Richie Appleby to the midifeld and Bo Henriksen to the attack.
