Harriers continued their winning pre-season programme with a comfortable third consecutive victory over Midland
Alliance side Boldmere St Michaels.
The game was barely one and a half minutes old when Jon Price turned Narada's left-wing cross into his own net to give Harriers the best possible start. Narada was to be a thorn in the side of the Boldmere defence throughout the half with an excellent display of crossing as he regularly got forward from the left wing-back position. After 15 minutes he was involved again when he almost doubled the lead, a last ditch intervention by the home defence prevented him from converting Dean Bennett's cross. From the resulting corner Matt Gadsby headed over the bar. After 28 minutes another peach of a cross from Narada lead to John Williams heading in from close range to increase the lead. Two minutes later the lively Williams was on hand again to slot a shot inside Matthew Knight's near post after Sean Flynn and Matt Lewis had combined to create the opening. Harriers were totally dominant in the first half and could have had a hatful of goals, Wright kept out one shot from Bennett and two weak ones from Lewis while Danny Williams, Kenny Coleman, Bennett and John Williams all contrived to miss the target. After the break Harriers made a number of changes that disrupted them for a while and allowed Boldmere to get back into the game for a few minutes. Before too long, however, Harriers were threatening goals again and after 50 minutes the frame of the goal came to the rescue of the home team when Eliot Paschalis crossed from the right for Graham Ward but the young midfielder saw his header crash down off the bar onto the goalline and then out to safety. Boldmere made the most of this reprieve and four minutes later pulled a goal back. The ball was played in from the left and Stuart Brock came out to collect it but missed it completely leaving Aaron Roberts with an easy tap-in. Soon afterwards the goalpost prevented Harriers from increasing their lead, Mark Danks and Ward combined to set up Paschalis who saw his shot bounce across the face of goal after hitting the post and then Sam Shilton followed up only for his shot to be blocked and then Boldmere somehow scrambled the ball clear. Kyle Lightbourne added a fourth goal after 73 minutes, another excellent cross - this time from Shilton - found him in space at the far post and able to head in from close range. Two minutes later a Danks pass through the heart of the home defence found Craig Wilding who tucked his shot under substitute keeper Gareth Murphy. Six minutes from time Danks set up Ward who blasted his shot over the bar from the edge of the penalty area but within a minutes Danks had added the sixth himself with a well-struck shot from the left that went just inside the far post. In stoppage time Paschalis almost added a seventh when he headed Wilding's cross over the bar from close range. |
