Two goals from trialist Danny Kedwell helped Harriers to a comfortable victory over AFC Telford on their return to action after a nine week break. Harriers included a number of trialists in their line-up; former Walsall defenders Jonathan Bewers and Kofi Dakinah, midfielder Mark Briggs who was formerly with West Brom, Notts County and Shrewsbury and Herne Bay striker Kedwell. It was Kedwell who caught the eye the most, he almost opened the scoring after just four minutes when he broke clear of the United defence but saw his lob from the edge of the area drop just over the bar. A few minutes later, however, he was instrumental in the opening goal; his crossfield pass from deep on the left found youth team winger Jermaine Hollis on the opposite flank who tucked the ball neatly past Steve Taylor in the visitors' goal. The second goal arrived ten minutes later; Daniel Ludlow threaded a pass through the Telford defence for Kedwell to run on to and he slotted it just inside the far post. Harriers dominated an entertaining opening half to such an extent that Daniel Lewis was not troubled by the visiting strikers at all. Chris Beardsley should have increased the Harriers lead on the half hour mark following a good build up between Hollis and Kedwell but he blasted Hollis' low cross high over the bar. Beardsley was again involved as Harriers searched for more goals, his pass set Kedwell clear on goal again but his attempted lob was not high enough and Taylor was able to hold onto it. After the break the game was much quieter. Harriers still dominated the possession but did not really threaten for some time; eventually Telford managed a shot at goal, one time Harriers reserve striker Carl Tranter called Lewis into action at last. Midway through the half Kedwell had another chance, his shot was parried by Taylor and Steve Burton's follow up was blocked, with the goal gaping in front of him substitute Stephen Thompson fired the loose ball wide. The third goal eventually came in the dying minutes of the game; Briggs lofted a long pass over the Telford defence and found an unmarked Kedwell in the centre of the penalty area and he made no mistake slotting it past Taylor. Kedwell could have completed his hat-trick in stoppage time; Ludlow's pass left him in the clear again but his shot was parried by Taylor who managed to grab hold of it at the second attempt. |
