Match Report by St@tto

Harriers' third win in a row allowed them to keep up the pressure on League leaders West Bromwich Albion moving into third place with three games in hand.

A quiet first half saw Harriers on top but it took until the midpoint of the period before they took the lead.  Micheal Xiourouppa had already been thwarted by Albion keeper Daniel Woodhall and Simon Fitter had also gone close when Michael McGrath jinked his way into the penalty area on the Harriers left; he ghosted past two defenders and planted a low shot into the far corner of the net.

Harriers continued to dominate the game and late in the half Aaron Farrel almost doubled the advantage with a run similar to McGrath's but just as he was about to shoot, the ball was nicked off his toe by a Burton defender.  Shortly afterwards Harriers had a shout for a penalty turned down when Carl Dudley was pushed in the penalty area but referee Holbrook waved play on; Farrell lashed the loose ball goalwards but his shot was blocked by Ashley Walker.  The second goal came three minutes before the break; Fitter's pass set Xiourouppa free on the right wing, he pulled the ball back to Dudley who swept the ball in from 25 yards over Woodhall's head and into the top corner.

The second half began in the same fashion that the first had ended; Harriers were soon back on top and almost added a third when Fitter's free kick from 25 yards out beat the wall but drifted just wide of Woodhall's right-hand post.  Harriers' third goal arrived six minutes into the second period, Farrell's effort was blocked and the ball ran to Paul Bonar; his sot was saved by Woodhall but the keeper failed to hold onto the ball and James Dyke followed up to fire it in from close range.

Farrell went close to finding the net himself; Dyke's pass over the defence picked out the striker who controlled the ball with one touch and then hit a low shot that went narrowly wide.  Eventually Burton began to play, Richard Lonsdale's free kick from near the right corner flag found athan Jones whose first-time shot hit the bar.  The visitors pulled a goal back with fifteen minutes remaining; Lonsdale found Chris Maxwell on the right and his low cross was forced home by substitute Shane Potter.  Albion almost pulled another back to set up an exciting finale two minutes from time, Potter made a good break on the right wing and his cross was struck first time towards the top corner by Jones but Bret Clowes in the Harriers goal pulled off a great save to push it over the bar.  Harriers survived the corner and were able to see out the closing monet comfortably.
