An explosive finish livened up what had been an otherwise uninspiring
encounter at Walshes Meadow. Harriers dominated possession for
most of the game but had to settle for just a single goal lead
for 70 minutes.
The opening goal came from a corner on the left which found its' way to Mike Costello beyond the far post, and his shot through the crowded penalty area ended up nestling in the corner of the net. Early in the second half Mark Pierce had a good shot pushed onto the crossbar by Panelczyk in the Paget goal, and then Naveed Arshid wasted a golden chance to equalise when he dragged his shot wide of an open goal. Matt Salmon gave Harriers a two goal lead two minutes from time, with a chip from the edge of the penalty area. Arshid gave Paget hope a minute later when a raced onto a pass through the heart of the Harriers defence and tucked his shot under Chris Gibson. Gibson was the villain in stoppage time when he brought down Arshid, and Arshid himself stepped up to send him the wrong way from the penalty spot. |
