Harriers stormed back into the play-off places with a sparkling performance that saw struggling Woking put to the sword in scintillating fashion. Lee Baker returned to the side after illness but Martin Riley dropped out with a hamstring injury to be replaced by Luke Jones, otherwise the team was the same that had created a seven-game unbeaten run. Harriers started the brighter of the two sides, clearly determined to win the game and not struggle to overcome their hosts as they had in the first, abandoned, attempt at playing the game a month ago. The game had a feisty start when Sintim scythed Justin Richards down from behind and was lucky to escape with just a yellow card. Matt Barnes-Homer nearly broke the deadlock after just 13 minutes, chasing a ball through the inside-left channel he out paced the home defence before shooting wide of the near post. The opening goal came after 17 minutes; Paul Lorraine brought down Chris McPhee just outside the penalty area and Keith Lowe stepped up to rifle the free-kick past the wall and into the bottom corner of the net. Lowe then started the move that led to the second goal ten minutes later; his cross was knocked down by Darryl Knights to Barnes-Homer who fired in his 16th goal of the season. Barnes-Homer should have added another just past the half-hour mark; the Woking defence disintegrated again and Harriers were able to beat the offside trap, McPhee broke clear and pulled the ball back for the striker who fired narrowly wide of the far post. The third goal wasn't long in coming, however, Barnes-Homer chased a long ball through the middle of the home defence, knocked it past the goal keeper and finished with an easy tap in. Jones could have added to the score just before the interval; Russ Penn's free-kick from deep on the left picked him out but he headed straight at Danny Knowles in The Cards' goal. In stoppage time Harriers added the fourth; a free-kick from the right was knocked down by Richards to McPhee who drove it in through the crowded penalty area. After the break harriers continued to dominate the game, although they eased off the pressure a little, and Penn went close five minutes into the second half heading McPhee's cross over the bar. Midway through the half Woking managed to do what nobody else had done in 732 minutes when Oliver Bozanic beat Adam Bartlett with a well-hit 25-yard shot. It was not long, however, until Harriers restored their four-goal advantage; substitute Brian Smikle controlled the ball on his chest, turned and hit a 25-yard plus shot that bounce awkwardly in front of Knowles and squirmed through his grasp into the back of the net. by now the home team were completely fallen apart, Knowles and his defenders loudly arguing amongst themselves. Had Harriers been more clinical in front of goal they would have won the game even more comfortably. Late on a free-kick played short by McPhee to Knights was fired wide of the far post and substitute Stefan Moore fired a couple of efforts over the bar. The win takes Harriers back into the play-off places, leapfrogging over Stevenage who visit Aggborough next. |
