Referee: Amy Fearn (Leicestershire) |
Harriers' best performance of the season saw them comfortably defeat Tamworth and move up to third in the league table. There was a surprise in the starting line-up for Harriers with the introduction of Jamie Grimes for his debut in place of the injured Josh Gowling; Callum Gittings also return to the side in place of Danny Jackman. Harriers got off to a flier and almost took the lead after just 23 seconds; Anthony Malbon, playing on the wing instead of in his normal central role, got to the byline on the left and pulled the ball back to Michael Gash who blasted over the bar. The opening goal wasn't long in coming, though, six minutes were on the clock when Duane Courtney's misdirected clearance went straight to James Dance who tucked a low shot inside the foot of the post to record his third goal of the season. Harriers dominated the game throughout and with earlier rain having made the playing surface slick they knocked the ball about well and had their hosts chasing shadows for much of the match. Just before the half-hour mark Kyle Storer rattled the bar with a long-range effort that looked destined for the top corner and shortly before the break Gittings had a shot well saved by Cameron Belford in the home goal. In stoppage time at the end of the half Harriers had the ball in the net again but the goal was ruled out by referee Amy Fearn who spotted a foul in the build up to it. After the break Harriers continued to dominate and pressed for more goals. Only a couple of last ditch interventions prevented them adding to the score, Courtney heading clear from Lee Vaughan's cross with Malbon set to apply the finishing touch. On 64 minutes Harriers doubled their lead; Dance's corner from the left was not cleared, the ball fell at the feet of Gash who had a simple task to stab it past Belford. Late on one of the best pieces of skill of the game almost saw another goal; Gittings controlling a high pass and then, without the ball touching the ground, volleying a cross the Chey Dunkley got his head to only for Belford to save. Deep into stoppage time Harriers wrapped the game up; Courtney clumsily brought down Malbon inside the penalty area, Malbon himself taking the spot-kick to join Dance and Gash atop the club's leading scorers chart on three. |
