Harriers' four-game winning streak was brought to an end by a lacklustre performance against lowly Altrincham as their hectic schedule of games finally caught up with them. The effort of winning four games in eight days had taken a toll on Harriers who were unchanged from their midweek win over FA Trophy finalists Ebbsfleet United. The home team were slow out of the blocks and fell behind after just seven minutes; Altrincham pumped a free-kick forward toward the edge of the Harriers penalty area where it was flicked on past the static Harriers defence by Robbie Lawton to in-form Colin Little who slotted in his tenth goal in as many games. The game had a real end-of-season feel about it and neither side looked particularly dangerous - or lively, even - and there was no more real goalmouth action until four minutes before the break when Jeff Kenna's cross from the right was met by Darryl Knights who guided a glancing header wide of the far post. Right at the end of the half Harriers got back on level terms. Russ Penn was brought down in the penalty area by Ryan Lynch, who was shown the yellow card, to win a penalty; Iyseden Christie despatched the spot-kick straight down the middle past Stuart Coburn to record his 15th goal of the season, and his fourth career goal against Altrincham. After the break the game was no better. Harriers enjoyed a lot of possession but the visitors got a lot of bodies behind the ball and made themselves very difficult to break down. Seven minutes after the break Harriers had a rare chance; Penn made a good run through the inside-right channel on the counterattack and laid the ball off to Christie who cut inside but fired high and wide of the far post. Right at the death Harriers almost found themselves behind again as a stoppage-time cross from the left caused some confusion in the home penalty area with Greg Tansey at the far post seeing his shot saved unconvincingly by Dean Coleman who took two attempts to grab the ball. |
