Referee: Graham Horwood (Bedfordshire) |
With rumbling thunder and flashing lightning overhead adding to the sense of foreboding surrounding Harriers' start to the season, yet another poor performance from them saw them slump to their fourth defeat of the season, leaving them alone at the foot of the table as the only team without a point so far. Skipper Exodus Geohaghon was left out of the squad completely, his place taken by debutant Cheyenne Dunkley, the breaking news after the game, and rumour before, that the skipper had been approached by Mansfield Town about a return to Field Mill and that he wants to go. Dunkley's performance, though, was one of the few bright spots of another disappointing afternoon for Harriers who are now beginning to look like a team with no confidence. Things might have been different had Jack Byrne's early shot not been blocked, likewise Ryan Austin's effort on the half hour. Dartford were little better but they took a chance when it came their way; an unmarked substitute Lee Burns rising at the far post to head home powerfully from Ryan Hayes' corner on 36 minutes. Dartford could have been further ahead by the break; Hayes' free kick from deep on the right was flapped at by Danny Lewis but fortunately for Harriers Tom Bonner hooked his shot over the bar. After the break Nathan Blissett was introduced and, despite his inexperience, looked quite useful. Harriers did have the ball in the net midway through the half, the otherwise ineffective Ryan Rowe forcing the ball in from a yard out but was ruled to be offside when he received Danny Pilkington's low cross. The dangerous Hayes created another good chance for the home team on 73 minutes, his cross from the right found Harry Crawford at the far post but his header was well saved by Lewis, turning it round the post for a corner. Harriers suffered a further setback two minutes from the end when Jack Byrne went down on the slippery pitch and was taken off on a stretcher with what was later revealed to a be a ruptured achilles tendon which will keep him out for most, if not all, of the season. |
