Referee: Ross Joyce (County Durham) |
Failure to convert chances created into goals cost Harriers dear as the suffered a first-ever defeat against Alfreton. Steve Burr named an unchanged side from the one that had beaten Gateshead at the weekend and they were soon carrying on where they had left off. Harriers enjoyed long periods of possession and used their quick passing football to stretch Alfreton but it was the home team that took the lead after 11 minutes, former Harrier Dan Bradley heading in at the far post from a left-wing feee-kick. Numerous chances came and went for Harriers with Marvin Johnson sending a number of dangerous crosses into the home penalty area. The closest that they came to an equaliser in the first half was when skipper Kyle Storer slammed a shot against the crossbar. Somehow, though, they went in at the break a goal down. After the interval Harriers continued to press and Michael Gash headed wide from a Lee Vaughan cross. Against the run of play former Harrier Tom Shaw fired the home team further ahead on 51 minutes with a low shot into the bottom corner of the net. The second goal knocked the stuffing out of Harriers and they were caught out again with twenty minutes to go when an attack broke down and Alfreton were able to break quickly with Bradley running clear through the middle before shooting past Danny Lewis. Eventually Harriers managed to pull a goal back with 11 minutes to go; a good passing move started by Vaughan on the right moved the ball inside to Lee Fowler, he ran at the heart of the to Town defence before passing to Gash who rolled the ball into the path of Storer who lashed his shot past another former Harrier Ross Atkins. |
