Harriers lost at home for the first time this season thanks to a late winner by Grimsby substitute Rhys Oates. Both teams had played their part in an entertaining game that looked set to end goalless until Oates marked his debut with a well struck shot to nick all three points with just five minutes left to play. After an even start to the game where both sides were testing each other out Harriers went close to taking the lead midway through the half, Jack Byrne's pass found Marvin Johnson on the right who cut inside before firing a low shot straight at Town keeper James McKeown. At the other end of the pitch Danny Parslow's deep cross from the right found Ross Hannah but he headed wide of the target. A Kevin Nicholson free-kick from 30 yards out was saved by McKeown at the near post, Michael Gash played the ball back into the danger area where Jamie Grimes saw his shot cleared off the line by Aristote Nsiala. Harriers' best chance of the half cam on the the half-hour mark; Jared Hodgkiss won the ball just outside his own penalty area and passed to Johnson who set off on a long run down the right wing into the Town area; his shot was parried and ran to Gash who had time to pick his spot but blasted over the bar. Early in the second half, after Reece Styche's low cross had been sliced out for a corner, Chey Dunkley saw his header cleared off the line by Craig Clay and Josh Gowling's follow-up shot was also blocked. Another Harriers counter-attack saw Johnson and Gash combine with the latter's cross from the right towards Styche at the far post cleared just before he could connect. With 18 minutes remaining Town went close to breaking the deadlock; Scott Brown's corner from the right headed against the bar by Craig Disley. Harriers had the ball in the net on 78 minutes when Nicholson's cross from the left was headed in by substitute Nathan Blissett but his effort was ruled out for a foul. Grimsby grabbed their winner with five minutes to go; Brown, on the left, passed to Oates who cut inside before despatching a low shot beyond the reach of Danny Lewis. |
