Match Report by St@tto

Harriers' penalty jinx struck again as Adam Murray saw his injury-time spot-kick saved to deny The Reds a point.  Harriers have now gone seven games without a win and are just three points above the relegation zone.

Jan Molby made two changes to the starting line-up, bringing in Scott Rickards and Rob Betts at the expense of Bo Henriksen and Graham Ward.  Betts was making his first start since the return of Molby in October.  The changes also meant a change in formation to Molby's preferred 4-3-3.

Harriers made a lively start to the game with Jesper Christiansen heavily involved in the opening minutes causing problems to the visiting defence.  Rickards had a good chance to open the scoring early on, an incisive pass from Adam Murray allowed Dean Bennett to get behind the Yeovil defence and his cross from the byline was headed over by the former Tamworth man.  Soon afterwards Harriers were awarded a free kick 25 yards from goal on the left; Murray took it, curling it over the wall and forcing Chris Weale in the Yeovil goal into a save.  After the promising start the game gradually deteriorated in quality and became bogged down in midfield.  Harriers lost their spark but Yeovil, with only one win in their last eight games, were not much better.

After the break the game began to improve as a spectacle although the Harriers' performance did not.  Harriers were first to threaten a goal, the ball was played over the Yeovil defence on the left and Bennett hit a lob on the run that beat Weale but also beat the goal dropping just beyond the far post.  Almost immediately Yeovil won a free kick just outside the Harriers penalty area that Gavin Williams hit just over the bar.

Yeovil took the lead after 63 minutes; Matt Gadsby gave the ball away in a dangerous position to Williams who was then allowed to run at the Harriers defence which just opened up in front of him and he tucked his shot beyond Stuart Brock's dive.  Harriers' heads dropped and soon after Simon Weatherstone won the ball on the right and slipped it through to Kevin Gall who ahd a clear run at goal but dragged his shot wide of the far post.

As Harriers desperately searched for an equaliser Danny Williams headed over from Murray's corner after 72 minutes and then six minutes later Gadsby found the side netting after Wayne Hatswell had headed across the face of goal.  Harriers biggest problem was that they lacked any bite in attack, all of the best moves were coming from Murray in the midfield and it was midfielders and defenders who were the ones trying to score; after his bright start to the game Christiansen was almost totally invisible in the second half.  Christiansen was fouled in the penalty area ten minutes from the end, clearly pushed to the ground, but referee Kevin Wright waved played on, the ball came back to Murray who flashed a shot wide of the far post.

Harriers were awarded a penalty, however, in the last minute; Adam Lockwood brought down John Williams and the referee appeared ready to wave play on until he spotted the flag of his assistant Gary Chapman indicating the foul.  The game was delayed as a Yeovil defender tried to put off Murray by standing in front of the ball which sparked a scuffle involving a number of players and resulted in both Bennett and Simon Weatherstone getting the yellow card.  Yeovil continued to try and disrupt the penalty and Williams was the next into the referee's notebook.  The gamesmanship succeeded, however, as Murray put his kick low to Weale's right but the keeper managed to push it round the post.

To rub salt into the wound, from the resulting corner Bennett headed Murray's kick into the net only for it to be ruled out by the referee for reasons known only to himself.  Finally, four minutes into stoppage time, a Craig Hinton free kick from midfield was headed on by Hatswell to Christiansen who headed weakly at Weale when in a great postition and should really have found the net.
