Match Report by St@tto

Harriers slumped to their sixth home defeat of the season and their first against Torquay in the Football League after a dismal defensive performance gifted the visitors two goals and a lack of guile in attack meant that they were unlikely to get back into the game once behind.

The visitors needed just six minutes of the game to take the lead, Harriers' defence was still in the dressing room when the ball was played from the left and David Graham was able to flick it on to his strike partner Kevin Wills who had plenty of time to pick his spot before planting the ball pas Stuart Brock.  Brock was the first surprise on the teamsheet having made a miraculous recovery from the flu bug that had threatened to keep him out of the game, he probably wished that he was at home in bed when his defenders left him so unprotected so early on.  The opening stages of the game were actually quite entertaining with both teams looking to attack and the played ebbed from end to end.  Harriers almost drew level three minutes after going behind, Steve Burton's corner from the right found Wayne Hatswell at the far post but he headed over the bar.  The equaliser was not long in coming, however, Danny Williams picked out Andy White on the right wing, the big strikeer doing well to get to a poor pass, and he cut inside the full back to get into the penalty area before rolling the ball back into the path of Williams who had continued his run and he stroked the ball inside van Heusden's left had post to record his fifth goal of the season.

Every time Torquay attacked in the first half there was a danger of goals, desperate defending after a quarter of an hour kept the scores level; Brock flapped at a cross and first Burton and then Sean Parrish had to throw their bodies in the way of the ball to prevent Graham and Matt Hockley from restoring The Gulls' advantage.  Soon after a free kick from the right found Graham at the far post but his header hit the foot of the post and was put out for a corner.  It was not until five minutes before the interval that Harriers threatened again, Bo Henriksen broke free through the inside-left channel but hit his shot both high and wide.

Torquay regained their advantage early in the second half, Harriers' defenders backed off Graham as he attacked from the right allowing a clear run across the penalty area and nobody picked up Wills as he ran on to Graham's short pass and tucked the ball into the bottom corner of the net.  Once behind for a second time Harriers fell apart, as has often been the case this season, and never looked like they were going tom find a way back into the game.  The game became bogged down in midfield as Harriers struggled to string two passes together to keep possession while the visitors were content to sit back and knock the ball around waiting for another opportunity.

Ten minbutes from the end Harriers almost snatched a late equaliser when Arhan van Heusden was called upon to make his first proper save of the game, Burton's corner from the right was knocked back across the goalmouth by Danny Williams at the far post and Hatswell's goalbound header was tipped over for a corner.  Torquay still had time to try to cause Harriers further humiliation when a poor pass across the edge of the Harriers penalty area was intercepted by Tony Bedeau who set up Graham but fortunately for The Reds he hit his shot straight at Brock.
