28 NovBoston United PreviewYork Street, the scene of one of Harriers' worst performances last season is the venue for tomorrow's encounter with Boston United. Harriers lost that game 3-0 and Jan Molby will be hoping that there is no repeat of the performances against Torquay and Worcester earlier in the week that would ensure another similar result. Molby has all of his available players fit and ready for selection, the only ones missing are Adam Willis who plays the last game of his loan spell at Burton Albion and Graham Ward who is away on international duty. One player who will not be figuring in the game is Jesper Christiansen who is set to move to Aggborough but has not been signed in time. The big Dane is expected to sign a two-and-a-half year contract when his current contract with Odense expires in a couple of weeks having agreed terms with Harriers. Boston manager Neil Thompson is set to be without strikers Stuart Douglas and Simon Weatherstone, the latter having failed a fitness test on his injured groin. Definitely missing will be Tom Bennett who is suspended. United will offer a stern test to Harriers having won their last four home games and not tasted defeat at York Street since September 17 when Cambridge United were the visitors. Last season Boston won the corresponding fixture 3-0, two goals from Richard Logan and one from Simon Weatherstone gave The Pilgrims victory. Harriers have not won at Boston a 3-0 win in 1992. For all of the previous results between the clubs, click here. I expect Harriers to line-up as follows: Brock, Hinton, Burton, Smith, Hatswell, D.Williams, J.Williams, Bennett, White, Henriksen, Parrish. Referee for the game is Trevor Kettle from Berkshire. So far this season he has taken control of 13 games (7 in Division Three) and issued 64 yellow cards and 8 red (in Division Three 31 yellow and 3 red). 26 NovLee Ayres ReleasedJan Molby has begun to make room in his squad for new signings by releasing Lee Ayres today. The young defender has been on the fringes of the squad all season and has been on a short-term contract since the summer when former manager Ian Britton asked him to prove himself worthy of a longer one. Under Molby, in his first spell in charge, Ayres made his League debut and was a regular for quite a long period. His inexperience has hindered him at times in his Aggborough career and he has suffered a couple of bad injuries to keep him out of the squad. Earlier this season he spent time on loan at Tamworth in the Conference and it is likely that he will return there in the near future, Lambs boss Darren Gee was keen to keep him at the club at the end of his loan but the player chose to return to Aggborough in the hope of forcing his way into the plans of new manager Molby. 24 NovHarriers Surrender Meekly To Local RivalsJan Molby gave starts to some of the players on the fringes of the squad in tonight's Testimonial for Worcetsr City player Ian Cottrill at St George's Lane but none of them did themselves any favours in their quest to force their way back into the team. John Danby was given the goalkeeper's position while Kenny Coleman, Rob Betts, Lee Ayres and Matt Lewis all started and Bo Henriksen and Scott Stamps continued their recovery from injury with 90 minutes each. The opening stages suggested that Harriers would win comfortably but after wasting a string of chances they fell behind to a Cottrill penalty. Craig Hinton headed Harriers level and the score remained the same until half time. After the break Harriers fell into their normal ways and the defence went AWOL leaving Danby exposed on a number of occasions, two goals in three minutes from Mark Owen and Darren MIddleton put the home team 3-1 up. Henriksen pulled one back but Harriers continued to waste the few chances that they created and ten minutes from the end Owen added another to complete the scoring. 22 NovSorry Harriers See Gulls SoarA dismal second-half perfromance from Harriers saw them slump to their sixth home defeat of the season, and the first ever against Torquay in the Football League. A bright start to the game was marred by poor defending allowing the visitors to take the lead through Kevin Wills after just six minutes. Danny Williams pulled Harriers level soon after and the rest of the half was quite entertaining from a neutral point of view. Early in the second half even worse defending gifted a second goal to Wills. This time, however, Harriers were unable to find a way back into the game. Devoid of ideas there was no danger of the home team getting a point and in the closing stages The Gulls almost snatched a third. 21 NovTorquay United Preview
John Danby stands by to make his first start in the Football League tomorrow as first-choice keeper Stuart Brock is suffering from 'flu and is likely to miss the game against Torquay United at Aggborough. Brock is the only concern for boss Jan Molby; Scott Stamps has recovered from his ankle injury and will put pressure on Steve Burton for the left back spot while Bo Henriksen could come back into the starting line-up. One player who will definitely not figure is Graham Ward who is away on international duty with the Irish Under-20 squad who are taking part in the FIFA World Youth Championship. Torquay boss Leroy Rosenior will have to do without four first team players as Jonathan Osei-Kuffour, David Woozley, Martin Gritton and Lucas Burgess are all injured. Coming in to the squad, however, is former Harriers trialist Narada who has joined the club this week, the other former Harrier in the Gulls' ranks is midfielder Alex Russell who had a couple of games in the Reserves in Jan Molby's first spell in charge of the club. Last season the corresponding fixture ended in a Harriers win, goals from JJ Melligan and Bo Henriksen gave The Reds a 2-0 win. For the results of all previous meetings between the clubs, click here. I expect Harriers to line-up as follows: Brock, Hinton, Burton, Smith, Hatswell, Parrish, Gadsby, Bennett, J. Williams, White, D. Williams. Referee for the game will be Mike Thorpe from Suffolk. This season he has been in the middle of 15 games issuing 52 yellow cards and four red. Of those games just four have been in Division Three and he showed 12 of his yellows in them. 20 NovBurton Extends LoanHull City have allowed defender Steve Burton to remain at Aggborough for another month as his initial period has proved successful. Hull manager Peter Taylor has stipulated, however, that he wants Harriers to agree to let him return to Hull at any time during the month. Taylor told the Hull Daily Mail, "I'm happy for Steve to stay there - provided Kidderminster agree. He's done well with them. He did train with us yesterday and looked a lot stronger and confident. That's why we let him go out on loan and I'm sure he'd benefit from another month." 15 NovGreat Gadsby Sinks Dale The first senior goal of Matt Gadsby's career was enough to win the game for Harriers at Spotland continuing their recent run of good form away from Aggborough. At the moment Harriers are turning anywhere that isn't Aggborough into a fortress, since losing 1-0 at Huddersfield on 30 September Harriers have not conceded a goal in the league on their travels preceding this win at Rochdale with a goalless draw at Swansea and a 1-0 win at Northampton. Steve Burton returned to the side at the expense of Sam Shilton in an otherwise unchanged team but it was the likes of Gadsby and John Williams who were the stars for Harriers. Williams played wide on the right attacking from midfield while Dean Bennett was given a free role in a more conservative formation than the 4-3-3 seen in recent games. Williams had a field day running at Rochdale left back Simon Grand and leaving him for dead more often than not. It was one such run that created the only goal of the game for Gadsby. Rochdale were forced to play out the last 25 minuts of the game when on of their three substitutes, Michael Simpkins, was forcded to limp out of the game with a hamstring injury. 14 NovRochdale PreviewJan Molby has a full squad to choose from for tomorrow's trip to Spotland to take on Rochdale. Steve Burton returns to the squad after sitting out last weekend's FA Cup tie and will challenge Scott Stamps for the left back berth, Bo Henriksen will hope to make the starting line-up after recovering from his recent groin and flu problems. The only players unavailable are those who are out on loan - Nick Heath has gone to Cirencester Town for a month and joins Adam Willis on the "On Loan" list. Molby is still looking to strengthen his squad and this week has had Danish striker Jesper Christiansen at the club on trial, currently he is with Danish Super League side Odense and next week Molby will be talking with them to see if he can arrange a permanent move for the 6'3" frontman. 17th-placed Rochdale are not in the best of form at present, Alan Buckley's side have lost their last three Division Three encounters, against Doncaster Rovers, Swansea City and Leyton Orient. Buckley's first selection dilemma will involve the goalkeeper position, Neil Edwardsa has a dead leg and the manager must decide whether or not to risk him or to use Matthew Gilks who stands by. Returning to the squad is Michael Simpkins who missed the last game through suspension while Gary Jones will go straight into the team after returning to the club on loan from Barnsley. Gareth Griffiths, who has caused us problems in the past, is a doubt with a back injury but should make the side. 'Dale have in their squad Mickael Antoine-Curier who briefly played for Harriers earlier in the season but is not first choice striker while Harriers have former Rochdale player Rob Betts. Last season the corresponding fixture ended in a 1-0 win for Harriers, Sam Shilton scoring the only goal of the game. For all of the previous encounters between the clubs, click here. I expect Harriers to line up as follows: Brock, Hinton, Burton, Smith, Hatswell, Parrish, Gadsby, Bennett, J. Williams, White, D.Williams. Referee will be Phil Prosser from Gloucestershire, so far this season he has taken control of 13 games issuing 66 yellow cards and 8 red. Included in those figures are three Division Three games with 15 yellows and 3 red. 9 NovMore Conference OppositionThis afternoon's draw for the second round of the FA Cup has presented Harriers with Conference opposition again, Woking will be the hosts on December 6. Kingfield will immediately spring to mind for most Harriers fans as the place where the Conference title, and promotion, was clinched in 2000. Woking were also the opposition in Round Two in season 1993-94 when Harriers enjoyed their best ever run in the competition reaching the fifth round. 8 NovHarriers Scrape Through To Round TwoTwo goals from Dean Bennett, his first of the season, saw Harriers scrape a narrow victory over Conference strugglers Northwich at Aggborough. Despite the lowly league position, the visitors put up a valiant fight and frustrated Harriers in most of their play preventing The Reds from getting their hoped-for fast, flowing football going. Harriers had the best of the possession in the first half but could not turn it into goals until six minutes before the interval when Bennett headed in Matt Gadsby's cross. After the break The Vics showed more determination but eventually Harriers doubled their advantage six minutes from the end of the game when Bennett got his head to John Williams' cross. Northwich scored shortly afterwards to give Harriers a scare, Chris Thompson getting on the end of a hopeful long punt to tuck the ball under Stuart Brock, but Harriers held on. 7 NovNorthwich Victoria PreviewHarriers take a welcome break from league action tomorrow when they begin their FA Cup campaign with a home tie with former Conference rivals Northwich Victoria. Although he has been unable to add to his squad this week, Jan Molby should be able to welcome striker Bo Henriksen and left back Scott Stamps back into the team. Stamps has recovered from his ankle injury and will take over from Steve Burton who Hull City will not allow to take part in the game. Henriksen will return to the side looking to end his goal drought that has lasted since he scored a brace on opening day in the 2-1 win over Mansfield, he will take his place alongside loanee Andy White who is being allowed to play by his owners Mansfield. Northwich, like Harriers, are not having a good season and currently are second from bottom of the Conference. At this stage of the season they have only won two games, once in the league at home to Tamworth and in the previous round of the FA Cup when they beat Halifax Town, they have yet to win away from the Wincham Park home of Witton Albion where they are currently tenants while their new stadium is being built. The Vics are currently managed by Alvin McDonald who last season was in charge of Vauxhall Motors when they knocked QPR out. Former Harrier Hugh McAuley has recently joined them but he will not figure because he is cup-tied, as is Andy Ralph. Also missing will be Phil Brazier who has a hamstring injury and Chris Royle who is serving a three-game suspension. The last time Harries and Northwich met was at Aggborough and the game ended in a 3-1 win for Harriers which turned out to be the last home win as a non-league side. For all results between the clubs, click here. I expect Harriers to line up as follows: (4-3-3) Brock, Hinton, Stamps, Smith, Hatswell, Parrish, Gadsby, White, J. Williams, Henriksen, D. Williams. |
