Cambridge United Preview
Cambridge United New signing Andy White goes straight into the Harriers attack for tomorrow's visit of Cambridge United to Aggborough.  The 6'4" striker has signed on loan for two months today but moving out is Adam Willis who has surprisingly been allowed to join Conference side Burton Albioin for a month.  White began his career at Hucknall Town before joining Mansfield, more recently he has had loan spells at Crewe Alexandra and Boston United.
Either Bo Henriksen or John Williams could partner the new striker in attack, both are recovering from groin injuries and are doubtful but one of them could be called into action, Matt Lewis is also doubtful after suffering with 'flu this week.  Jan Molby has battled an injury crisis this week, along with all of the strikers at the club who have had problems Kenny Coleman and Adie Smith have had hamstring injuries, Dean Bennett has a groin injury and Wayne Hatswell has hurt his shoulder.  Scott Stamps is still recovering from his ankle injury and will definitely miss out.
Cambridge boss John Taylor will introduce his new striker Gareth Williams to the side but will be without Fred Murray, Alex Revell, Dan Chillingworth and Franco Nacca who are all injured.  The U's are sitting in mid-table but would have hoped to be doing etter.  However, their away form of late has been good, they have won two of their last three games away from Abbey Stadium.
Harriers will be hoping for a repeat of last season's result when two goals from JJ Melligan sealed a 2-1 victory.  For all of the previous meetings between the clubs, click here.
I expect Harriers to line-up as follows: Brock, Coleman, Burton, Hinton, Hatswell, Parrish, Melligan, D.Williams, White, Henriksen, Shilton.
Referee for the game will be George Cain from Merseyside, this season he has controlled eleven games (two in Division Three) and issued 17 yellow cards (3 in Division Three).

Vics Beat Shaymen
Northwich have beaten Halifax in this afternoon's FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round game at Wincham Park.  The Vics won 1-0 thanks to a goal from Chris Thompson scored three minutes before the interval.  Northwich now travel to Aggborough on November 8 unless the game is chosen for TV coverage (as if!!).

Home Draw in FA Cup
FA Cup The draw for the First Round of this season's FA Cup contest this afternoon gave Harriers a home tie with former Conference adversaries Northwich Victoria or Halifax Town, they meet tomorrow at Wincham Park.  The game will take place on November 8.

Honeymoon Over For Molby
Harriers slipped back into their ugly ways as they were beaten at home again, this time by high-flying Doncaster Rovers.  Jan Molby's search for a striker will surely take on even greater intensity after this toothless display allowed the vistors to take the points without causing them many problems.  The Harriers were not helped by the loss of John Williams after eight minutes through injury leaving young Matt Lewis as the only fit striker in the squad.
Chances are being created by the Harriers midfield but they are being wasted whereas opponents, Doncaster in this instance, are taking their chances and punishing The Reds, Rovers only managed three shots on target but two of them ended up in the back of the net.  Sloppy defending is still causing problems, too, Lewis gave the ball away needlessly leading to the opening goal scored by Gregg Blundell and the marking was next to non-existent when Blundell was allowed to create the second goal for Chris Brown.
Molby surely already has an idea in mind of who he wants to bring in but knowing who or what you want and bringing them to the club are two different things entirely.  Hopefully things will have changed by next weekend when Cambridge United visit or the likes of John Williams and Bo Henriksen could be forced into action when unfit and that could cause even more long-term problems.

Doncaster Rovers Preview
Doncaster Rovers
Jan Molby has completed his first signing since returning to the club, bringing in Hull City defender Steve Burton in on loan for a month as cover for the injured Scott Stamps whose ankle injury could keep him on the sidelines for several weeks.  Craig Hinton has been employed at left bakc for the last two games but Molby sees this as too specialised a role for the likes of Hinton and has moved swiftly to fill the gap.
The only other major injury concern is Bo Henriksen, his groin injury is healing rapidly but he will not be risked yet and he is also suffering from 'flu which is also affecting Adam Willis.  Two other players, Adie Smith and Kenny Coleman, picked up knocks in Tuesday's win at Northampton but should be OK to play.
Rovers manager Dave Penney has to do without defender Tim Ryan who will see out a one-game suspension while Fran Tierney, a one-time Molby target in his previous spell at Aggborough, will watch from the sidelines as he has a hamstring injury.  Rob O'Brien has been recalled from a loan at Gainsborough Trinity to join the squad.
This will be the first Football League meeting between the clubs, the last time we met was in the LDV Vans Trophy at Belle Vue two years ago.  For all of the previous results, click here.
I expect Harriers to line-up as follows (4-4-1-1) Brock, Coleman, Burton, Hinton, Hatswell, D. Williams, Ward, Bennett, J. Williams, Mellligan, Parrish.
Expect yellow cards to be shown, referee is Lee Cable from Woking; so far this season in 13 games he has shown 55 yellow cards and three red.  Three of those games were in Divsion Three, and there were 18 yellows and three reds.

Parrish Stuns His Old Mates
Sean Parrish was the Harriers matchwinner when he returned to his former club Northampton Town and gave new manager Jan Molby the best possible start to his second spell in charge.
Molby decided to stick with the same team that finished the game at Swansea on Saturday, Scott Stamps the only absentee after inuring his ankle in that game.  Had former boss Ian Britton been at the game he would have had a rueful look on his face after seeing the team stick to the jobs that they were given and generally do the basic things well that have been their downfall all season long.
Every player had a part to play in the first Harriers away win since beating Darlington in August, JJ Melligan was his usual livewire self and John Williams gave probably his best performance in a Harriers shirt and was unlucky not to get his name on the scoresheet.  Before the game when the teams were read out Parrish was given a warm reception by the home fans and even after he had scored what turned out to be the only goal of the game midway through the first half he was give another good ovation when he was substituted twenty minutes from the end.
As was to be expected after being under pressure for most of the first half, Northampton came back at Harriers in the second and a frantic late push almost got them an equaliser but Harriers stood firm to deservedly take home the points.

Northampton Town Preview
Northampton Town
Jan Molby has some injuries to contend with as he takes charge of the Harriers for the first time in eighteen months tomorrow when they make their first ever visit to Northampton Town.  Bo Henriksen is still out with a groin strain and Scott Stamps has joined him on the treatment table after picking up an ankle injury early in Saturday's game at Swansea.
The new manager will have to make do with the players at his disposal for the trip to Sixfields, but he told the club's Official Website that he would be looking to bring in some more experience and someone to score goals, "With the exception of John Williams, Sean Parrish and Adam Willis, there isn't a lot of experience in the side.  I might have to look at other options in the short term.  There isn't a lot of goals in the side at the moment.  There is a little bit of money left in the budget, I've put the wheels in motion but obviously getting a striker is my priority at the moment."
Northampton themselves have recently appointed a new manager, Colin Calderwood has taken control of the team and he has a number of selection problems ahead of the game.  Missing through injury will be Paul Reid, Peter Clark, Ashley Westwood, Tom Youngs while goalkeeper Lee Harper will sit out the game as he serves a one-match suspension.
This will be the first meeting between the clubs but Harriers will be looking to put one over on their hosts as they were the team that Harriers should have replaced in the league after winning the Conference in 1994.  In those days Northampton played at the run-down County Ground which was not as good as Aggborough yet The Cobblers were allowed to keep their place in the Football League as Harriers hadn't made the necessary improvements to the ground in time.
I expect Molby to stick with the same side that performed so well at The Vetch on Saturday with the exception of the injured Stamps and line up as follows: Brock, Coleman, Smith, Hinton, Hatswell, Bennett, Ward, D. Williams, J.Williams, Melligan, Parrish.
Referee is due to be Graham Salisbury from Lancashire, in two Division Three games so far this season he has waved 8 yellow cards and one red and in all ten games controlled 33 yellow and three red.

Jan Molby Returns
As expected Jan Molby has returned to Aggborough to take control of team affairs under the grandiose title of "Director of Football".  Gary Barnett will also return in his old position as Molby's assistant.  The pair will return to work tomorrow and the club will hold a full press conference on Tuesday ahead of the Division Three game at Northampton Town.
Harriers chairman Colin Youngjohns spoke to the club's Official Website to explain the decision to remove Ian Britton from his post, "I'd like to place on record our gratitude for the effort and hard work Ian has put in during his time here.  However, it was a difficult decision and one that wasn't taken lightly.  We are in a results-driven business and we were not getting results.  We had to make changes sooner rather than later to ensure we protected our Football League status.
"When we made decision to change the manager we had to look at who was best equipped to make an immediate impact; whatever anybody says Jan did a terrific job during his first stint here.  Jan knows the financial position of the club and what finances he has to work with.  We have not brought him here under false pretences."

Brit Sacked
Late last night Harriers released a statement confirming that they had parted company with Ian Britton with immediate effect.  A further statement is expected tomorrow with regard to the new man in charge.
Harriers fans are now faced with the terrible prospect of the return to the club of Jan Molby.  The man who walked out on the club in favour of working for a "proper" club, the man who brought such luminaries as Barry Horne, Andy Ducros, Drewe Broughton and Abdou Sall to the club.  In the eighteen months since he left the club a lot of hard work has been done to reduce the financial burden caused by the high paying contracts that he handed out like sweets and a lot of people have lost their jobs to put right the problems.
Should Molby be the man unveiled tomorrow he will have to work hard to win over the fans at Aggborough who tried to organise a t-shirt protest when he returned to Aggborough last season with Hull, the same fans who asked "Who told all the lies?".  Many, however, will have forgotten the way in which he left the club and welcome him back with open arms treating him as some sort of messiah.
Another question to be asked is "Where is the money going to come from?", Molby has shown in the past that he cannot, and is unwilling, to work without substantial funding, this was one of the key reasons behind his departure last year.  Are there new backers prepared to bankroll him or are we to expect the return also of Lionel Newton, nothing has changed since he relinquished his position as chairman: still nobody comes through the gate to watch the team and still major businesses in the town don't support the club.  Is he prepared to return and pump money into the club and realise that he will never get any sort of return on his investment or are there other people with money prepared to step in?
One thing for certain is that the next 48 hours are set to be very interesting and in the midst of all the upheaval there is another game to play on Tuesday night when Harriers travel to Sixfields to take on Northampton Town.

Battling Performance Not Enough To Save Brit
A strong, committed display from Harriers earned them a fully deserved point at The Vetch Field against high-flying Swansea City but it was not enough for the board who decided to end the reign of Ian Britton after the game.
Rumours were rife after the game of the return of Jan Molby to Aggborough after it became apparent that The Express & Star had run a story linking the Dane to the Harriers hot-seat but no confirmation was forthcoming.
The game was marked by the debut of Wayne Hatswell at the heart of the Harriers defence and he gave the rest of the squad a lesson in how to defend.  Kenny Coleman at right back also gave a good all round display at full back while JJ Melligan was his usual lively self.  At the death John Williams almost won the game with a shot that Roger Freestone did well to keep out.

Swansea City Preview
Swansea City
Wayne Hatswell completed his transfer to Aggborough last night and goes straight ito the squad to face high-flying Swansea City at The Vetch Field tomorrow afternoon.  Ian Britton's joy at clinching the defender's signature was tempered by the failure to capture the other two players that he was hoping to bring in: a loan move for Hartlepool United goalkeeper was blocked at the eleventh hour for reasons beyond Brit's control and an unnamed striker was injured playing for his club on Tuesday.
Bo Henriksen will miss the game with his groin problem but the good news is that JJ Melligan's hamstring pull is not as bad as first feared and he should play.  Brit has an otherwise full squad to choose from and so his biggest decision is whether to go with the same 4-4-1-1 formation used at Loftus Road or revert to the usual 5-3-2.
Swans boss Brian Flynn has a number of injury problems to contend with, chiefly the loss of leading scorer Lee Trundle who has a serious knee injury.  Also missing through injury will be Karl Connolly, Leon Hylton and Kieron Durkan.  Jon Coates and Brad Maylett are expected to come into the squad instead.
Last season the game at The Vetch was one of the best performances seen from the Harriers in a long time with goals from Sam Shilton, Bo Henriksen, Drewe Broughton and JJ Melligan sealing a 4-0 win.  For all previous results between the teams, click here.
I expect harriers to line up a follows (4-4-1-1): Brock, Coleman, Stamps, Willis, Hatswell, Parrish, Bennett, D. Williams, J. Williams, Melligan, Shilton.
Referee is due to be Paul Danson from Leicester, this will be his first Division Three game of the season but he has been in charge of eight games at a higher level in which he has issued 45 yellow cards and three red.  Last season he was in charge of the memorable (!) game at Aggborough against Boston United.

Slick Rangers End Harriers' LDV Campaign
Loftus Road Harriers were knocked out of the LDV Vans Trophy at the First Round stage for the first time by a slick and powerful Queens Park Rangers side.  Ian Britton made a number of changes to the team, bringing back Craig Hinton at the heart of the defence in a flat back-four with Kenny Coleman also returning at full back, with limited options in attack John Williams played alone up front with JJ Melligan just behind him in the gap ahead of the midfield.
The team showed more resolve and commitment than in the Southend game at the weekend, but came up against a solid Rangers defence that snuffed out every half-threat that Harriers could muster, by then end Harriers had managed just three shots on goal and none of them on target.  The QPR forwards were very pacy and looked dangerous every time they went forward, Rangers manager Ian Holloway even had the luxury of leaving his first choice strike force on the bench.
Harriers were un done by a goal in each half, first the speed of Eric Sabin created the chance that Richard Pacquette swept past Stuart Brock, late in the game the usual Harriers defensive frailties came to the fore again.  A Gino Padula corner was allowed to cross the face of the goal area unimpeded and with the Reds' defenders impersonating statues Arthur Gnohere rose at the far post to head in the second goal.

Queens Park Rangers Preview
Queens Park Rangers
Harriers make their first ever visit to Loftus Road tomorrow evening in the first round of the LDV Vans trophy which should give a welcome respite from league action.  With their hosts lying in second place in the Second Division, Harriers will not be expected to win and so some of the pressure will hopefully be off and allow The Reds to put in a better performance.
Ian Britton has one major injury worry to contend with, Bo Henriksen limped out of Saturday's defeat against Southend with a groin strain after overcoming an achilles injury during the week; he may not be risked with an important Division Three trip to Swansea coming up on Saturday and this could give Matt Lewis another chance to start in attack.  Brit has confirmed that he is interested in bringing Wayne Hatswell to the club and had hoped to have completed the deal in time for tomorrow's game but there are still some loose ends to tie up.  There is still some way to go in the negotiations that are taking place to bring in two more players, one of whom is believed to be a striker, although these are only likely to be loan deals.
Rangers manager Ian Holloway has an embarrassment of riches to choose from, his side were without a game at the weekend due to their opponents Brentford having a number of players called up for international duty, and this allowed some of his injured players extra time for recovery.  Clarke Carlisle returned from injury with a runout in the reserves last week, is still progressing well and should figure at some point in the match.  Kevin McLeod and Richard Edghill are both likely to play having just come back from injury.  Definitely out is Dan Shittu who played against Harriers in their first season in the league when he was with Blackpool.
This season the LDV Trophy will be using the "Silver Goal" rule in games that end level after 90 minutes.  The first period of extra-time will be played in full, if one team is then leading at the end of this period the game shall end, otherwise the second period will be used.
I expect Harriers to line up as follows: Brock, Bennett, Shilton, Smith, Willis, Stamps, Melligan, Betts, J. Williams, Lewis, D. Williams.
Referee is Ian Williamson from Berkshire, so far this season he has been in the middle of 8 games issuing 25 yellow cards and no red.  Last season he took control of two Harriers games, at home to Scunthorpe and away to Oxford, with Harriers losing both.

Furious Brit Set To Make Changes
"The same basic mistakes are happening" - Ian Britton
Ian Britton has promised to make changes to the team ahead of next Saturday's trip to high-flying Swansea City after yesterday's disappointing performance against Southend United at Aggborough.
In his post-match press conference he said, "I am sick and tired of some of the players.  The same basic mistakes are happening week after week, these players have let down the club and the fans with an inept performance that I just can't accept, there was just no enthusiasm - and we are talking about players who get paid for something that they supposedly enjoy doing.  I am totally gobsmacked."
Acknowledging that more flak is set to fly his way, he continued, "No matter what I say I will get slaughtered on the website, by the fans and in the press so I can only say what I feel.  Everybody keeps telling me I can't coach and do this, that and the other, but when you see mistakes which are nothing to do with me, then what can you do?  Believe it or not we have worked all week in training on back play."
Before yesterday's game Brit had said that he was looking at two or three players, one a striker, and after the game he reiterated his intention to strengthen the squad, promising that the players he brings in will make things better.  The one player who is set to join on a permanent transfer looks likely to be Chester defender Wayne Hatswell as reported below.
As was to be expected, Shrimpers boss Steve Wignall was delighted with his team's first away win of the season, "The players deserved this win, they worked their socks off and I thought we defended fantastically.  We are just delighted to get three points.  All season we have played with confidence but we haven't had enough steel in our play and I hope this win will calm the players down and give us the confidence to go on".

New Defender About To Sign?
Ian Britton is set to make his first signing with a transfer fee if reports in today's Non-League Paper are to be believed.  Conference side Chester City are said to have accepted Harriers' offer of around £15000, despite interest from Shrewsbury Town who have apparently made a higher bid.  Chester chairman Stephen Vaughan said, "Shrewsbury made a bid for Hatswell but we turned it down,  We won't sell to them because they are our biggest rivals for the championship.  We have accepted an offer from Kidderminster Harriers that is about £10000 less than Shrewsbury were prepared to pay.  It is now up to Hatswell to decide.
"I've nothing against Shrewsbury, it is simply a business decision.  The only way they could have had Hatswell is if they did a player-exchange by letting us have their striker Luke Rogers".
Hatswell has not figured in the Chester first team since September 13 and has been on the transfer list since the start of the season after falling out with manager Mark Wright.  The player began at Forest Green Rovers before Wright took him to Oxford United where he spent two seasons before following Wright to The Deva Stadium in the summer of 2002.
The last player that Harriers paid a fee for was Bo Henriksen who cost Jan Molby £12500 when he joined from Herfølge the season before last.

Shrimpers Snatch Victory At The Death
After last weekend's welcome victory over Carlisle Harriers were back to their bad old ways this afternoon when they were beaten by a goal two minutes into stoppage time from Southend substitute Tes Bramble.
Matt Lewis was brought in for his first start in the Football League and in the early stages he looked quite promising, but a scrappy game never got going and neither he nor his teammates were able to shine.  The visitors took the lead in the last moments of the first half when Mark Warren blasted a free kick in from 25 yards out.  After the break Harriers huffed and puffed to get back into the game but it didn't look likely until JJ Melligan snatched an equaliser six minutes from the end with a close range finish after his initial shot had been blocked.
With the game in stoppage time and Harriers heading for an unlikely point, the home defence committed suicide; the ball was played into the danger area from the left, Stuart Brock decided not to come and claim it despite there being no opponent near him, Scott Stamps cold only head it weakly back across goal under pressure from Leon Constantine and Bramble hooked it in from close range.

Southend United Preview
Southend United
Drewe Broughton makes his first return to Aggborough since leaving the club on a free transfer in the summer when Southend United visit this afternoon.  The big striker will be looking to make his mark by scoring his first League goal for The Shrimpers, so far he has yet to find the net in eleven league appearances.
Ian Britton will be forced into making changes to the team that beat Carlisle United last weekend after it was decided not to extend the loan of Andy Bishop.  Brit had hoped to have strengthened the squad in time for today's game but none of his negotiations were completed in time so he has instead recalled Matt Lewis from his loan at Hinckley United.  There are no fresh injuries to worry about so the boss has a full squad to choose from.
Steve Wignall, the Southend manager, will be without goalkeeper Carl Emberson who has a calf injury and former Bristol Rovers midfielder Che Wilson who has injured his knee.  Leke Odunsi may miss out as he has an ankle problem but on the plus side Michael Husbands could return to the side after recovering from a ligament injury.
Last season this fixture ended in a 1-0 Harriers win with the goal being scored by JJ Melligan.  Harriers have a fairly good record against Southend, for all of the previous results, click here.
I expect Harriers to line-up as follows: Brock, Bennett, Shilton, Smith, Willis, Stamps, Melligan, Betts, J. Williams, Henriksen, D. Williams.
Referee for the game is to be Andy Hall from Birmingham, in his first two Third Division games this season he has issued four yellow cards and one red, and in all 9 games that he has controlled 31 yellow and two red.

Dyer Leaves, Lewis Stays Away
Lloyd Dyer has ended his loan spell at the club, returning to The Hawthorns to try to force his way into West Brom's first team.  Ian Britton was keen to keep the player at Aggborough for a further month but the player felt that his career would be better served by being back at The Albion.
Matt Lewis, meanwhile, who has scored five goals in six games in his month at Hinckley United has had his loan spell extended.  The young striker has proved a big hit at the club and is currently their leading scorer, his goals have helped them climb to third in the Doc Marten's Premier Division.  His progress, which is pleasing the Harriers management, will continue to be monitored and if Brit fells that he is ready for the Football League he will call him back to Aggborough.

4 Oct
Bish And Danny End Carlisle Jinx
Two second half goals, from Andy Bishop and Danny Williams, gave Harriers their first ever Football League victory over Carlisle United and their first win for ten games.  The return of JJ Melligan boosted the Reds and he was at the heart of most of the attacks that Harriers created.  Still not back to their best, Harriers were nonetheless far better than they have been over recent matches and created a string of chances in the first half but went into the interval with the game goalless.
Ten minutes into the second period Bishop rose to head Harriers in front and round off a move involving Bo Henriksen, Melligan, Graham Ward and Danny Williams.  The lead only lasted a few minutes until Peter Murphy ended a swift counterattack with a long-range shot.  For once, however, Harriers did not capitulate after losing the impetus of a promising start and grabbed all of the points with Williams' deflected free kick shortly before the end of the game.

An Old Friend Returns
Harriers have boosted their squad ahead of Saturday's basement battle with Carlisle by bringing JJ Melligan back to Aggborough.  Wolves boss Dave Jones has allowed him to come back on loan, initially for one month.
Ian Britton, understandably delighted to have the player back told the Official Website, "Of course we're delighted to bring JJ back here. Not only will he'll lift the spirits of the fans, but I'd expect his return to give the players a spark.  He did really well for us last season but it's important fans don't expect too much too quickly from him.  He hasn't played much football since he left us and I don't expect his fitness levels to be as high as the other players.  It may take him to time to settle back into the pace of this division but we know what we will get from JJ.  He's not the best defensive midfielder you'll ever see but we already have players here who can do that job.  We know he can score goals and we know he can create chances.  JJ couldn't wait to get back here which is very important.  He loves the club and that's the type of player we want".
