Harriers' unbeaten Conference run now stands at four games, with Mark Yates yet to taste defeat in a League game since taking control of the team. With key players Mark Jackson and Iyseden Christie now left the club for pastures new a debut was given to Jake Sedgemore, surprisingly at right back, with Johnny Mullins moving over to take Jackson's role in the centre of defence and Daryl Burgess taking up the captain's armband; in attack Andy White came in in place of Christie while other new signing Paul Smith had to be content with a place on the bench to start with, Junior Osborne was omitted as he was carrying a minor injury. High-flying Halifax have yet to suffer defeat at home in the Conference this season and so were always going to provide a stiff test for Harriers although their own injury problems dictated that they were not at their best. Yates has brought a new steeliness into the Harriers side, making them much harder to beat and they were comfortably a match for their hosts in a very dour first half. Goalscoring opportunities were at a premium in the opening half; Halifax managed just one half chance, Steve Bushell hit a deep cross-shot from the right that went wide of the far post while Harriers' best chance fell to Simon Russell, but when played in through the middle he dragged his shot wide of Jon Kennedy's right-hand post. The second half was only slightly better and there was little excitement until the closing stages. Harriers looked more dangerous when Gareth Sheldon was introduced in place of Francino Francis and later on with the appearance of Smith. John Danby was called into action in the final minutes pushing the ball away from John Grant's shot; Danny Forrest should have done better in the last minute but fired wide across the face of goal. Harriers could have won the game themselves in stoppage time, Russ Penn fed the ball through to Sheldon whose cross was deflected to Smith and he saw Kennedy save his shot low to the right. Penn then had the last chance of the game firing wide from 20 yards out.
