Match Report by St@tto

Harriers' disappointing run of results continued with a second consecutive defeat without scoring, giving Halifax just their second home win of the season.

Russ Penn returned to the team after missing the previous game through suspension and took the place of Jamie McClen in the centre of midfield but was unable to impose himself on the game.  Harriers did begin the game with purpose and for the first 15-20 minutes were on top and should have taken control of the game.  The opening goal should have come after ten minutes when Simon Russell picked up Scott Bevan's clearance on the left and crossed low just out of reach of Iyseden Christie; Brian Smikle crossed the ball back in from the opposite flank and Gavin Hurren's header was saved at the expense of a corner.  From the resulting corner Mark Creighton's header was blocked on the post.

Shortly afterwards Hurren carried the ball forward through the middle of  the Halifax defence before setting Russell away on the left, he beat one man but the ball got stuck under his feet and the home team were able to clear.  The Shaymen weathered the storm and began to get into the game; Steve Torpey should have put them ahead after 20 minutes when he received a crossfield pass that left him in acres of space on the left but his shot towards the far post was pushed away by Bevan for a corner.  Top scorer Ryan Sugden wasted a chance shortly afterwards when he fired over the bar.

The opening goal came eight minutes from the end of the half, Danny Forrest got away from Jonny Harkness on the right and ran at the Harriers defence before rolling the ball to Andy Campbell who exchanged passes with Sugden before sweeping the ball past Bevan.  At the end of the half Harriers could have got themselves back into the game; Christie did well on the right, setting up Jake Sedgemore whose cross was glanced over the bar by Smikle.

Early in the second half Sedgemore was at  the heart of Harriers' best chance, his free-kick 20 yards out on the left beat the wall but was tipped over the bar by Craig Mawson in the home goal.  Midway through the half Andy White set up Christie who twisted and turned his way into the penalty area but shot over the bar.

A Forrest run through the heart of the Harriers defence opened the visitors right up and set up Sugden who saw his chip come back off the bar.  The result was put beyond doubt seven minutes from the end; Jake Wright carried the ball forward and tried to set up sugden who couldn't get a shot in and the ball was half cleared but ran to Wright who was still in attack and drilled his shot low to the far post.  Shortly afterwards they could have made it three when Lewis Killeen's left-wing cross found Chris Senior but his header was pushed away by Bevan.
