Match Report by St@tto

A quick-fire ten minute hat-trick from Shots substitute Marcus Gayle turned the game on its head, sinking shell-shocked Harriers and ending their five-game winless streak.

Harriers suffered an early setback when Shots' leading scorer John Grant latched onto a ball played through the inside-left channel and beat Scott Bevan at the near post with a weak shot.  For once, however, Harriers did not let their heads drop and battled their way back into the game.  Iyseden Christie and Reuben Reid combined to set Simon Russell free on the right who saw his shot towards the near post saved by Nikki Bull at the expense of a corner.

While Ben Harding more than once missed the target for the home side, Reid and Russell created a chance for Russell Penn who fired into the side netting.  Harriers best chance fell to Craig Nelthorpe who was left unmarked when Reid's low cross from the right found him beyond the far post but he snatched at his shot and fired over.

The youngster made up for it shortly before half time with a deep cross from the left that found Christie who directed a looping header beyond the reach of Bull to level the scores.  Two minutes later and Christie had fired Harriers ahead with his fourth goal of the season; picking up the ball on the right he cut inside and fired a 20-yard shot beyond Bull into the far corner of the net.

After the break Harriers didn't seem to know whether to press on for a third goal or to sit back and defend the lead that they had.  Aldershot had had the stuffing knocked out of them by Christie's brace and looked shaky at the back but a series of substitutions turned the game back in favour of the home team.  Marcus Gayle was sent on as a last throw of the dice after 62 minutes and within four minutes had leveled the scores.  David Lee, who once turned out for Harriers' reserves, broke through the Harriers defence on the left and lofted a cross to the far post where Gayle was waiting to head in.

Curtis Osano, who had been pushed up from full back to the midfield, found himself in acres of space on the right shortly afterwards and left Michael Blackwood for dead; his cross to the far post was knocked back into the danger area by Darren Barnard for Gayle who was left with an easy finish to put Aldershot back in front.

Fifteen minutes from the end Harriers had a chance to get back on level terms; Reid won the ball on the left and cut into the penalty area before shooting straight at Bull at the near post while Christie was unmarked at the far post.  Moments later Harriers were to rue the missed opportunity as Barnard's deep cross from the left was met by the head of an unmarked Gayle at the far post who powered the ball past Bevan to complete a ten-minute hat-trick.  In the closing minutes the scoreline could have been made to look even worse had Joel Grant kept his composure after beating the Harriers offside trap but instead fired wide across the face of goal.
