Match Report by St@tto

An error by goalkeeper Chris MacKenzie cost Harriers two points in a dull game between two evenly matched sides who cancelled each other out.

Gavin Hurren returned to the Harriers starting line-up in place of Andy Ferrell as the only change to the side that had drawn at Northwich but he was not enough to provide the spark that had been missing.  Apart from an early chance for James Constable, heading wide from MacKenzie's long clearance, there was next to no goalmouth action in the first half until the game sprang to life two minutes before the interval.

Jon-Paul Pitman  got to the byline on the left and pulled the ball back to Jamie Cook who shot straight at MacKenzie.  Harriers took the lead when Michael Blackwood's cross from the left found the unmarked Constable who left Ashley Bayes in the visitors' goal flat footed as his header looped over him into the back of the net.  In stoppage time Blackwood set up a chance for Justin Richards who lashed a shot against the underside of the bar but Crawley managed to scramble the ball away for a corner.

The second half was no better as a spectacle; Richards went close again on the hour, his close range shot from Brian Smikle's cross was pushed away for a corner by Bayes.  Russ Penn played a neat one-two with Smikle on the right before crossing low across the face of goal just out of the reach of Richards.  Crawley then drew level with 20 minutes left; MacKenzie rolled the ball out of his penalty area before launching a kick down field, but did not notice Crawley's leading scorer Guy Madjo lurking behind him who nipped around him and stole the ball away before rolling it into the empty net.
