Match Report by St@tto

Harriers scraped through into the Second Round of the FA Trophy with an unconvincing win over Conference North strugglers Burscough at Aggborough.

Captain Mark Creighton missed the game through suspension, Luke Jones returning to the side in his place, while Brian Smikle dropped down to the bench in favour of David McDermott as the only other change to the team that had beaten Mansfield Town despite there being a flu bug in the squad.

Aggborough's lowest crowd for six years had little to warm them on a cold night as Harriers quickly dropped to the level of their lower-league opponents and couldn't get into their stride.  The visitors were well organised and often looked quite lively going forward although they rarely troubled Adam Bartlett in the Harriers goal.

Harriers first decent chance of the half didn't arrive until the 28th minute, Martin Brittain's cross from the right picked out Justin Richards whose header was parried by Aaron Grundy in the Burscough goal who managed to grab the all at the second attempt.  In stoppage time at the end of the half Harriers took the lead; Brittain again the provider, his corner from the right headed in at the near post by Jones for his second goal of the season.

The visitors had a good opportunity to level the scores five minutes after the break; Eddie Stanford was allowed to run through the middle of the Harriers defence, his shot was deflected to Craig Davies on the right who pulled it back for Peter Heler who blasted it over the bar.  They were almost made to pay for that miss just a couple of minutes later when Martin Riley's header was cleared off the line by Sean Clancy.

Twenty minutes from the end Ryan Wade's left wing corner was turned in at the near post by Heler to level the scores.  The game was getting no better by this stage, however, and the prospect of an unwanted replay began to loom large on the horizon.  As time began to run out Stefan Moore's crossfield pass found Richards on the left but his shot from the edge of the penalty area flew high and wide of the far post.

Moore gave Harriers the lead again five minutes from the end; a long ball through the inside-right channel found Richards on the edge of the penalty area who laid it back to Moore to drill a low shot into the bottom corner from 20 yards out.  In the last minute Brittain looked to have made the game safe when he received Richards' pass on the left wing and cut inside and curled a shot over Grundy into the top corner.  The visitors managed to pull another goal back in stoppage time, Wade tucking a low shot past Bartlett but they didn't have enough time to press for an equaliser.
