Match Report by St@tto

Harriers' hopes of causing an FA Cup shock were dashed by two second half goals by Championship side Coventry City on their first visit to The Ricoh Arena.

Mark Yates named an unchanged side from the team that had beaten Torquay United in their previous game, but changed the formation moving Matt Barnes-Homer to the left wing and leaving Justin Richards up front on his own with Russ Penn just behind.  The intention being to contain their hosts and make themselves hard to break down.

Robbie Simpson on the City right wing caused Harriers problems throughout and in the opening minutes almost broke the deadlock when his cross had to be tipped over the bar for a corner by Adam Bartlett.  Simpson created another chance on 12 minutes, his cross picking out an unmarked Leon McKenzie in the middle of the penalty area but his header was easy for Bartlett to deal with.

Shortly afterwards City debutant Curtis Wynter picked up the ball on the right and slipped it inside to Leon Best who cut in past his marker and hit a shot towards the far post that Bartlett pushed away for another corner.  From the corner, one of nine City corners in the first half, Aron Gunnarsson headed over the bar. Harriers soaked up everything that City could throw at them and were able to go into the interval with the scores still level.

After the break Harriers came out a little more lively and in the first minute could have taken the lead, Russ Penn hitting a 25-yard shot that Adam MArshall in the City goal did well to hold onto.  The deadlock was broken after 52 minutes; Michael Doyle's corner from the left was not delivered very well but fell to McKenzie who was able to sweep it in at the near post.

Just ahead of the hour mark City had yet another corner, this time Doyle's delivery from the left was better and found Ben Turner who whose far post header was saved at the expense of another corner.  Harriers withstood the corner and counterattacked quickly, Penn carrying the ball forward through the heart of the City defence before exchanging passes with Barnes-Homer and firing wide from beyond 20 yards out.

Late on Harriers tried to press for an equaliser and Richards found Lee Baker on the left wing, his cross to the far post picked out Dean Bennett who did well to keep his volley down but it was well blocked by a City defender.  If City were feeling nervous that Harriers could nick an equaliser those fears were put to rest on 82 minutes when, with Harriers pushing forward, Freddy Eastwood's pass from the left wing set Best clear on goal with on Brian Smikle in his way, Smikle did well to hold him up for a while but he managed to get his shot away and it went in off the far post to settle the tie.
