Match Report by St@tto

Harriers bounced back from three games without a win with victory over league leaders Oxford United in a thrilling action packed game at Aggborough.

Showing just one change from the side that had bean beaten in the last game - David McDermott in for John Finnigan - Harriers were quick out of the blocks and took the lead after just 88 seconds.  Matt Barnes-Homer got into a good position wide on the left and crossed low towards the near post, the ball was moved on by Darryl Knights with the help of a United defender's arm to Robbie Matthews who steered it past ex-Harriers 'keeper Ryan Clarke in the United goal.

In front of the largest attendance of the season so far at Aggborough Harriers were fired up, even if the majority of the crowd was the excellent traveling support from Oxford, and went further ahead in the 17th minute before United knew what was happening.  Another ex-Harrier, James constable, had tracked back to defend and was penalised for a foul on Martin Riley; the free-kick 30-yards out was played short to Barnes-Homer who rifled a blistering shot past the reach of Clarke to record his eighth goal of the season.

Harriers were well on top but the visitors were handed a lifeline on the half-hour when Dean Coleman made a needless challenge to bring down Sam Deering in the penalty area.  Constable took the penalty and sent Coleman the wrong way, and then did himself no favours with a foul-mouthed rant at the Harriers supporters behind the goal during his celebration.

The visitors now sensed a way back into the game and shortly afterwards Constable got into the penalty area again but hit his shot straight at Coleman, the Steve Kinniburgh's cross from deep on the left found an unmarked Deering who glanced a header wide across the face of goal.  At the other end Danny Andrew saw his free-kick from the right corner of the penalty area saved at the near post by Clarke. In the last minute of the half Andrew was in the right place to clear Simon clist's header off the goal-line; Harriers then counter-attacked and went close through Brian Smikle who saw his shot well saved by Clarke.

After the break Harriers needed just seven minutes to quell United's resistance and restore their two-goal advantage.  Stand-in skipper Dean Bennett's slide-rule pass set Barnes-Homer away on the left, his low pass into the goalmouth found Matthews who tucked his shot under Clarke who could only help it into the net.

Harriers continued to control the game which still had drama to come; with fifteen minutes left Barnes-Homer was brought down in the penalty area by Kinniburgh who was shown the red card.  In search of his hat-trick Matthews took the penalty but hit it into just the right place for Clarke to dive to his right to push away.  Clarke then followed up that save by quickly getting up to block Smikle's shot from the rebound.
