Faced with a mountain to climb it was always unlikely that Harriers would manage to win the game by four goals, but they held Stevenage to a draw and had chances to have won the game.  Had they have performed this way in the first leg then there would have been more riding on this game and they may have been celebrating a fifth trip to Wembley.  As it is Stevenage return to the National Stadium to defend the Trophy that they won last season.

Dean Bennett returned to the team after injury and Darryl Knights came back into the starting line-up after missing the midweek trip to Luton Town.  Harriers started well but it was the home team that were first to threaten to break the deadlock; former Harrier Chris Beardsley broke into the penalty area on the left and pulled the ball  back to Andy Drury who saw his shot hit the near post and then Martin Riley hacked the rebound away to safety.

Ross Atkins was called into action soon afterwards; Stacey Long was given too much room on the edge of the penalty area and fired in a shot that Atkins pushed away for a corner.  At the other end Chris Day was alert to push away James Lawrie's 20 yard effort after good work by Knights.  On the half hour Atkins saved well again after Beardsley was allowed a free header from Yemi Odubade's right wing cross.

After the break the game continued in a similar fashion; Harriers had plenty of possession but the home team were comfortable in soaking up any pressure applied to them while threatening to win the game themselves.  Substitute Mitchell Cole set up a good chance for Odubade but his header was held low down by Atkins.

In the closing minutes there were great opportunities for both sides to take the game; Knights played a good 1-2 with Brian Smikle before hitting a shot with the outside of his boot from the edge of the penalty area that Day did well to dive away to his right to save.  At the other end Odubade broke through the inside right channel and crossed low to the near post where Cole saw his shot saved at point-blank range by Atkins.
