Match Report by St@tto

Steve Guinan's first competitive goals in a Harriers shirt, backed up by a sold defensive performance, gave Harriers their second away win of the week and helped them maintain their hoodoo over Cambridge with their fourth win in seven visits to Abbey Stadium since both clubs were relegated from the Football League in 2005.

Steve Burr named the same side that had won at Lincoln in midweek and they were evenly matched with a Cambridge side that featured three ex-Harriers in Michael Wylde, Tom Shaw and Ryan Charles.  The opening twenty minutes or so of the game were scrappy and quite cagey as the teams cancelled each other out.

United were the first to really threaten to break the deadlock with a free kick five minutes before the interval; Ashley Carew's shot curled round the wall towards the far post but was pushed away by Danny Lewis.  Within moments Harriers were ahead; Marc Williams and Kyle Storer combined to set up Guinan who calmly slotted the ball past Danny Naisbitt.

Guinan could have doubled the lead a minute later with a double chance that saw his header saved by Naisbitt and hacked away for a corner.  From that left-wing corner Callum Gittings' cross found Guinan at the far post who headed Harriers into a comfortable half-time lead.

Cambridge came out after the break fired up and were soon on the attack.  Harriers had to soak up a lot of pressure as United dominated possession.  Unable to break down the visiting defence United threw on Michael Gash on 57 minutes and within 85 seconds he had got on the end of a cross from the lively Carew to fire in from close range to reduce the arrears.

That one breakthrough was the only blemish on Harriers' defensive performance as the whole back five, with Luke Jones and Tom Marshall in particular impressive, stood up to everything that the home team threw at them.  Harriers could have increased their advantage in the last minute as substitute Luke Medley showed some fancy footwork on the right before cutting inside but fired his shot high and wide of the far post.

Deep into stoppage time Conal Platt was allowed to run through the middle of the park but at the end of it he shot tamely wide for the edge of the penalty area and Harriers were able to see out the remaining moments of the game comfortably.
