Match Report by St@tto

In-form Anthony Malbon was on hand again to fire in Harriers' winner as they ground out another hard-fought victory.

Lowly Nuneaton Town put up dogged resistance but were ultimately unable to prevent Harriers from picking up their 15th win from 17 games to keep up their pursuit of leaders Wrexham who also won to maintain their two point advantage at the top.

Steve Burr, returning to one of his former clubs, made two changes from the side that beat Alfreton at the weekend, fit-again Lee Vaughan returned to the defence in place of Ricky Shakes while Callum Gittings came in for James Vincent in midfield.

The game was no classic, especially in the first half, with neither side imposing themselves. Town, buoyed by two wins in the previous two matches, fought well and matched the visitors in the early exchanges but the match soon degenerated into a very scrappy affair. Neither goalkeeper made a save in the first half, such was the paucity of clear-cut chances.  Kyle Storer had a chance early on to open the scoring against his previous club but his shot was blocked, deflected away for a corner.

After the break Harriers began to step things up but not before Aaron Phillips had shot straight at Danny Lewis.  Chey Dunkley headed wide from Gittings' cross on the hour and Storer's free-kick from the left wing caused a goalmouth scramble that saw home keeper Lee Burge save from Josh Gowling and Ryan Rowe. The only goal of the game came in the 70th minute; Mickey Demetriou's free-kick from the edge of the penalty area made it through the wall and was only parried by Burge to Malbon who had two attempts to stab in the loose ball from close range for his 11th goal of the season.

Late on a Kyle Storer free-kick from wide on the left evaded everybody and hit the far post and rebounded beyond Malbon's reach; had it gone in it would have made for a less nervy finish to the game as the home team threw everything forward in search of an equaliser.
