Harriers came from behind with three second-half goals to dump League One Peterborough out of the FA Cup. The reward for Harriers, along with £67500 in prize money, is a trip to Premier League Sunderland and another big payday from a decent sized crowd at The Stadium of Light. Unchanged from the side that beat Salisbury at the weekend Harriers matched their hosts for much of the first half and could have taken the lead. First Lee Fowler shot wide after 16 when positioned well and then five minutes later Joe Lolley, on what could turn out to be his last game in a Harriers shirt, fired straight at Bobby Olejnik in the United goal after Michael Gash's cross had been deflected out to him. Peterborough opened the scoring after 23 minutes; Danny Kearns' cross from deep on the right was awkward for Danny Lewis to deal with and Tommy Rowe was on hand to bundle it over the line at the far post. Harriers hit back and nine minutes before the break Amari Morgan-Smith fired at Olejnik after set clear by Gash's pass. Harriers needed just two-and-a-half minutes of the second half to draw level; a crossfield pass picked out Danny Jackman in acres of space on the left wing and his glorious cross to the far post was met powerfully by the head of Gash to record his 11th goal of the season. Moments later Mark Little hit the post as United looked to restored their advantage. A couple of minutes later Harriers were in front; Lolley raced clear through the inside-right channel before squaring the ball to Jack Byrne who tucked his shot past Olejnik and into the bottom corner of the net. Gash went close to increasing the lead with an audacious 40 yard lob moments before Peterborough levelled the scores after 73 minutes. Lee Vaughan made a clumsy challenge on Britt Assombalonga in the penalty area and the Peterborough man picked himself up to take the penalty, sending Lewis the wrong way. United were level for just 89 seconds before Harriers grabbed what turned out to be the winner; a corner on the right was played short to Lolley who found skipper Kyle Storer, he returned the pass to Lolley who cut inside and drilled a shot from 25 yards that Olejnik didn't see until it was in the net behind him. Harriers had to be strong defensively to see out the rest of the game; United's Jack Payne had a goalbound shot blocked and Shaun Jeffers headed over the bar when well placed but Harriers got bodies back and made sure that all the headlines would be theirs. |
