Match Report by St@tto

Two goals from defender Chey Dunkley helped Harreirs towards their first win of the season, comfortably brushing aside Alfreton at Aggborough.

Showing just two changes from the side that drew at Lincoln at the weekend Harriers were in control of the game throughout, looking dangerous in attack and solid at the back as they recorded their second clean sheet in-a-row.

Jack Byrne and Marvin Johnson came into the side for Callum Gittings and Ahmed Obeng respectively and it was Johnson who almost unlocked the visiting defence on 18 minutes when he set up Craig Reid to fire across the face of goal.  That shot was deflected for a corner from which Dunkley saw a header cleared off the line.

The opening goals was not long in coming, though, Dunkley making an unchallenged run into the goal area to power home a header from Kyle Storer's left-wing corner.

Dunkley was a threat throughout and nearly doubled the advantage just ahead of the hour mark when he dived to meet Kevin Nicholson's deep cross from the left but directed the ball wide.  On the hour another Reid shot deflected away for a corner led to the second goal; Storer's flag-kick on the left was short to Nicholson who sent one of many dangerous crosses into the goalmouth where Dunkley was on hand to head home again.

Alfreton offered little threat up front and Danny Lewis didn't have a save to make all evening; midway through the second half Dan Gray had a chance with a 20-yard free-kick that he should have done much better with but sent his shot far too high and wide.

Reid and Nicholson then combined on the left with the latter setting up Johnson who fired wide of the near post before he completed the scoring in the closing stages of the game.  Reid won the ball on the right and knocked it back to Jack Byrne who found Jared Hodgkiss making a late run through the inside-right channel, his cross to the near post found Johnson who found the net with the third headed goal of the game.
