Match Report by St@tto

Defensive mistakes cost Harriers dear yet again as they were once more unable to hold on to a lead.

Jordan Jones was brought in to the side for his first start by caretaker boss Colin Gordon and had repaid his faith within 20 minutes by firing Harriers into the lead; Tahvon Campbell and Kevin Toner combined on the left to feed the ball to top-scorer Gurjit Singh who crossed the ball towards the near post where Jones was on hand to stab it past Chris Kettings.

That could have been Harriers' second goal as a lightning quick start saw them go close in the second minute; Campbell's strong run on the left allowed him to set up Luke Maxwell, back in the side after suspension, but he fired over the bar.

Shortly after taking the lead Harriers should have increased their advantage; after Reece Styche's over-hit cross from the right was recovered beyond the far post by Singh he whipped a cross across the face of goal just ahead of the late-arriving Maxwell.

At the other end a quickly taken free kick sent the league's top scorer Moses Emmanuel into the Harriers penalty area but Alex Palmer got down quickly to keep out his snap-shot.  As the home team searched for an equaliser Anthony Cook's cross from the right found Emmanuel but he headed straight at Palmer.

The equaliser came on 37 minutes; a free-kick in the inside-left channel 25 yards from goal was despatched over the wall and into the top corner of the net by Louis Dennis.  Harriers responded quickly and Styche saw his shot across the face of goal go narrowly wide.

After the break the home side needed just a couple of minutes to take the lead; Ali Fuseini's long ball forward set Cook away on the right, Jordan Tunnicliffe miscued his clearance from Cook's cross straight to Emmanuel who drilled the ball straight past Palmer.

The home side then increased their lead just before the hour in controversial circumstances when Kelvin Langmead was rather harshly adjudged to have fouled Cook who picked himself up to send Palmer the wrong way from the penalty spot.

Harriers were now out of the game, confidence gone and unnecessary mistakes creeping into their performance that looked likely to see them fall further behind.  However, on 64 minutes Tahvon Campbell picked up the ball on the left and ran at the home defence before picking out Jones 25 yards from goal who hit a speculative shot that, with the help of a slight deflection, flew over Kettings into the top corner and threw Harriers a lifeline.

The visitors were unable, though, to build on this opportunity and didn't look like scoring again until the closing stages of the game.  Four minutes from the end Jones's cross from the right found Andre Wright but he headed wide of the near post and in the last minute Joe Clarke's shot was cleared away from the foot of the post by Cook.

Defeat leaves Harriers adrift at the bottom of the league in what is now their worst start to a post-war league season beating the 11-game winless start to the 1983-84 season.
