Match Report by St@tto

Harriers dominated the game for large spells but were undone by former Harrier Andy Bishop's late header.

New signing Matt Young was brought in for his debut, slotting in at left back with Lathaniel Rowe-Turner moving inside in place of Jordan Tunnicliffe who dropped down to the bench and there was a recall for Calvin Dinsley who came in for loan signing Joe Ward who was left out of the squad completely.

The opening exchanges were evenly matched with Harriers playing some nice football but niether side managed to create any clear-cut goalscoring chances.  On 25 minutes, though, the visitors crafted a good opportunity that saw them attacking with three men against two Harriers defenders; Cole Stockton's pass set up Gary Jones but his shot to the near post was saved by Dean Snedker.

At the other end the lively Ben Whitfield, who continues to impress since his arrival on loan from AFC Bournemouth, had 'Port keeper Max Crocombe beaten all ends up with a curling shot that came back off the far post.

The closing stages of the half continued to be open with Stockton going close with a 25-yard effort while Whitfield was again unlucky when, after being set up by Jared Hodgkiss, he scooped his shot against the crossbar.

Three minutes after the interval Harriers should have taken the lead; a free-kick was lofted into the penalty area, Crocombe flapped at it causing the ball to drop at the feet of Callum Hassan who had more time than he realised and could only send a weak effort goalwards that the visitors were able to clear.

The first twenty minutes of the second half saw Harriers on top comfortably; substitute Reece Styche had a curling effort from distance held by Crocombe on 68 minutes and moments later a Harriers counter-attack led by Whitfield ended when Styche's sent the ball into the goalkeeper's hands with a heavy first touch rather than getting a shot away.

As the game drew towards a conclusion it seemed that at least a point and a clean sheet would be going Harriers' way and that if either team were going to win it would be them.  With seven minutes left, however, they were undone when a free-kick from inside the Southport half was not cleared properly and when Andy Wright crossed the ball back in from the left Bishop was left with space to direct his header past Snedker.
